Worst part about Gundam's battles is that, in a series that pretty much represents the "Real Robot" genre, all the battles are clusterfucks devoid of anything resembling strategy or tactics.
Literally just everyone flying around doing whatever the fuck they want, and that's when character AREN'T explicitly disobeying orders or going AWOL because plot. Tomino has literally never been good at writing an actual war.

It might not be a declared war. But Kudelia herself knows that the path she's leading Tekkadan and Mars on is one that leads to war. That's why she realized she already has blood on her hands. Plus This anime takes itself pretty seriously and we've already had a few child soldiers die pretty early on. If none of them die ever again for the rest of the series it would take a lot of the tension out of the show.
I wish they would have the setting to it's advantage more.

Yeah, the thing about Wing is that it really embodies the era it's from. It's pretty much like watching Stallone, Schwarzenegger and other action flicks of the period. The dialogues are cheesy, the characters and plot are ridiculous; critically speaking, they are indeed flawed but overall, it's enjoyable.
