Void is my favorite as well. He doesn't seem to possess any interests beyond supporting the Idea of Evil and is hence unique among the five. Void may very well even be *responsible* for the Idea of Evil's existence, if the popular theory of him being a great sage/speaker/religious leader proves true.
People sought a reason for suffering and pain in life: could those people have been his flock? Did Void preach of an entity that he believed caused all suffering and thereby cause its existence? Did they carve symbols into their skulls to represent their faith? His entire purpose for existing beyond inflicting the Brand is unclear.
Skull Knight wants to destroy the God Hand - this, we know. Then perhaps his attempts to kill Void are not due to a personal vendetta, but a(n incomplete) knowledge of Void's relevance/significance to the entire order and procedures of the Idea, of the God Hand, of Behelits and Apostles.

I can see that happening, as you can read above, but the final conflict resolution must still be between Guts and Griffith. Void's place in the story as we understand it is the ultimate chronicler, the most powerful member of the God Hand, and the original member of the God Hand.

Void is the only member of the God Hand who can create the Brand, as far as we know. He's the only one who possesses the magical knowledge in order to create it. Who is to say that is where his skills end? Who is to say he cannot manipulate its rules and functions?
