To the maintainer of the DoJG deck, I tested the styling posted by some anon in the previous thread and it completely ruins the deck. It is like the anon has no idea what the deck is for and didn't test it across anki desktop and ankidroid. Please do not replace the current layout with this layout, or if you are can you give people warning before removing those old deck? Throwing my opinion out there.

Is the language used in manga some kind of ultra-informal speech?
I can barely understand most of the language in any of the recommended-for-beginners mangas, but when they switch to more formal speak it suddenly becomes intelligible to me.
>>
>>134891700
>with shit cut out
The point is there isn't shit to cut out. The last thing djt needs it the best current project ruined by a minority commenting on something they clearly don't understand. Not to mention this silly "exposure card" meme. Supermemo only has two card types: recognition and recall.

>>134891737
The current deck fits perfectly for mobile and tablet resolutions. The new formatting fucks around with alignment, throws things out of balance that the screen forces back in place, which doesn't work well, removes all of the sentence letter references, and the embedded images no longer scale properly. The anon obviously has no experience with the project or the books.
>>
>>134891846
>The new formatting fucks around with alignment, throws things out of balance that the screen forces back in place
Can you post *what*?
>removes all of the sentence letter references
I did that because someone complained that they were there and I hid them to show him that they can be hidden. You're not supposed to use it like this.
>and the embedded images no longer scale properly
I can't test this.

>The anon obviously has no experience with the project or the books.
I used the O.G. deck and read the entire series front to back, but apparently when you're upset at something you don't understand you assume the worst.

Regardless of whatever SM does, which I cannot find any pictures of, it is not an authority on how flashcard formatting works.

That isn't comparing like with like nor do you seem to understand how the deck is supposed to be used. It doesn't function like those kanji flash cards. Anki has much more utility and flexibility; stubbornly ignoring it won't bring about benefits.
Image related is the は~だ card with the image note changed to text. I'd pay for a version of the current DoJG.pdf with this fully implemented, but now that the groundwork has been laid it is a matter of trudging along converting the word files the maintainer added to the mega folder. One entry down, 628 to go.

>That isn't comparing like with like nor do you seem to understand how the deck is supposed to be used.
That doesn't matter. If it's not a recognition card it should not be called a recognition card. Recognition cards only have one format: What you're trying to recognize the meaning of on the front, and that "meaning" on the back. If it does not follow this format, it is not a recognition card.

It is not hard to change the name of a card type and there is no justification for the immaturity of refusing to do so.

>Anki has much more utility and flexibility; stubbornly ignoring it won't bring about benefits.

What does that have to do with literally anything?
>>
>>134897492
If the text isn't going to be formatted with italics / bold / indentations like the original DoJG entry had, I'd rather keep the images on the card. Might just be me, though. As long as there's a field for text version and a field for image version I'll be happy.

There is a reason half of this thread uses VNs to practice, it's because they have both audio and its written form while also letting you stop and read every sentence at your own pace.
Meanwhile with anime you can only do that with the shows you can find jap subs for on the guide (which are like a dozen, and they're all shit. The subs are terrible too, I tried subs for NNB and that shit had both chinese and japanese on screen, like really?).
Then you have to pause every time you don't know a word or understand something, which is going to be every 3 seconds if you didn't do >>134898963.

When you learn things as a child you directly relate the word to the concept, it's an exact and perfect translation in your mind.

Learning something as an adult through a filter language means that words are turned into different words which at their turn are turned into concepts.

It's inevitable at first, but as soon as you can you should use circumlocutory decks in order to more closely relate to the words you're learning instead of some halfassed english approximation.

Guys, we will get our own board so we can have the RTK thread, the Anki thread, the Watch anime thread, the You can't learn Japanese thread, etc.

The idea was of a board that will have threads about the learning of every language people want to learn but that's pretty good too.

>>134899614
I don't think I've ever seen someone so butthurt about 1 thread. Why are you even here? Just filter it.

I don't think I would ever fully switch to J-J, because most of the time J-E is just easier and good enough.

Just write shit down.

Keeping a journal and passing it over once in a while is the more effective than anki, you use more of your senses and develop a stronger relationship with what's written and how to write it.
>>
>>134900318
>Then surely you would know to appreciate a work you have to read it in the language it was written.

>>134900395
While I do recognize it, I wouldn't do it for anything else other than Japanese.
>>
>>134898860
nobody thinks watching anime is a good way to actually learn new words or grammar you dip. It's for hearing words/phrases/sentence structures you already know in a natural context in order to gain a more intuitive sense of how they're actually used, which is useful pretty much as soon as you learn some vocab and how to string sentences together. Sure it's not the most "efficient" way of learning if all you care about is boosting your e-penis with flashcard counts and shit like that. But if you're gonna be spending much of your time watching japanese cartoons anyways(hint: 99% of people in this thread are), trying to pay attention to the japanese even if you're watching with english subtitles is going to be useful for putting what you learn in context based on how it's actually used by native speakers.
>>
>>134900436
Les miserables is shit.
>>
European languages would be a lot easier to learn if more dubbed anime was available to download. All you can ever find is English dubbed, even if one exists in French/German/Russian/etc.

It is also irritating just trying to find out which anime have been dubbed into a language. I wish there a good list somewhere.

If I was rich, I'd start a company that would translate and dub VNs in various languages I wanted to learn. They are the ultimate language learning tool.
>>
>>134900471

Of course it will look funny, but it seems more natural to me in other ways, and it would still be recognizable since everyone's handwriting is different. I could just go on and write in the proper order and whatever, but I'm really just curious. If I could write it how I naturally write things, I think it would be more familiar to me. But you do have a point. Even with English programs, I have trouble with character recognition programs thinking that I write a "2" other than a "5," but I don't suspect I'll be using any, really.

What I really want to know is, will I get spanked if I write it as I find natural to my own habits or does it not really matter as long as the outcome is recognizable?
