The anime is terrible, the manga is great for what it is but has very slow pacing for the first part, until it moves from psychological to action-based.
There's a lot of interesting symbolism and subtext, as well as a strong focus on character development and exploration if you like that kind of thing, but the overarching plot is very slow to develop and if you aren't interested in the themes it explores you're not going to engage with it.
It really depends on your personal taste.

The only thing edgy about Berserk is Griffith's betrayal. And even that was executed rather nicely since not only was the shock value was nailed right but also it was thematically relevant.
Now compare that to TG where the MC needs character development, I guess, so we'll fill a couple of buckets with fingers and toes, kill his friends and force a centipede down his ear. Yeah, not edgy at all. It was elegant and well-executed narrative.

Not that guy, Tokyo Ghoul is decent, I even think that the ending in TG would have been fine, or even a better ending, because it was supposed to be a tragedy. It's still decent, but it isn't the same than Tokyo Ghoul, at least the topics being discussed aren't the same, it seems more shounen that seinen now.

No, because many Akame ga Kill characters are really just edgy sadists. Some of them have sympathetic stories to a certain extent, I suppose, but it's all very shallow.
