Stop reading shoujo that focuses primarily on teen romance and you will be a lot happier with the results.

Read shoujo that doesn't focus on romance. Someone should make a shoujo essentials list with stuff like Basara or Glass Mask.

That's why I say "focus". Romance can still play a large role, but if the manga is only about a relationship and nothing else you will tend to get the same recycled teen drama over and over again. Try to aim for something that separates the premise from the romance, the characters can still be romantically involved.
>>134839319
Romance can be good but most modern shoujo romance is generally soap opera drama, there are exceptions of course but they're not very common.
>>
>>134839802
Agree, after reading hundreds of shoujo, it's all the same drama. I really like the one's I suggest because there's either different "drama" or conflict between the 2 love interests.

I don't want to sound like a sjw or nothing but, why shoujo mangakas hate female emancipation so much? Aren't they emancipated women? They work on a male-dominated environment and they have a career on a nation that denigrate working women but their mangas tend to be extremely conservative

So there this manga called Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers and it was like to shojo what Dragon Ball was to shounen. Basically every cookie-cutter shojo copies some aspect of it because its such an ur-example of popular girls shit.

If you're read BOF, you've basically read like 70% of all modern shojo out there
>>
>>134842213
Is this by the same author of Vampire Knight? The art looks similar.
>>
>>134841498
Shoujo has been stagnating for a while and a lot of women left for other demographics that cater more to their interests. Most of the ones that stuck around are the kind that eat up stories about unhealthy relationships like that, and because it rarely experiments outside of that narrow frame, it hasn't built back much of an audience outside of those types, which makes it even more difficult to try new things, it's a self-fulfilling cycle.
>>
>>134836056

Manga is shit
>>
>>134842359
Ao Haru Ride is selling like hotcakes and it follows the cookie cutter formula. Maybe it's a generational thing, there's space only for one unhealthy relationship manga by generation
>>
>>134841498
Another issue that's a result of shoujo being so focused on romance stories now is that most authors aren't creative enough to think of how to keep things interesting when writing an ongoing series about relationships, so they just throw in whatever cheap drama will keep the audience hooked.
>>
>>134842630
Isn't Ookami Shoujo selling pretty well, too?
>>
>>134842639
It's always the same shit

>MISUNDERSTANDINGS
>rich mean girl vs female lead
>reconciliation
>MISUNDERSTANDINGS
>nice guy vs douchebag boyfriend
>reconciliation
repeat for 10 years...
>>
>>134842686
Yeah but not at the shounen-tier levels of Ao Haru Ride. There are like 3 or 4 female-aimed titles on the top 50 of sales
>>
>>134842359
More than women getting sick of shoujo stories, I think it's more that Rumiko shook things up. She's basically just under Tezuka, Nagai, Ishinomori and Yokoyama in terms of density of manga that became hit franchises
>>
>>134842639

I wonder if the fact that female mangaka had huge success in shounen magazines encouraged others to go there if they wanted to write something more adventure-related.
>>
>>134842799
- See >>134842630

- Rumiko only writes shounen. Her works tend to be really popular among females but they're technically shounen
>>
>>134842730
>It's a female lead's friend falls in love with her boyfriend chapter
>It's a boyfriend's older brother wants to steal girl away chapter
>It's a mean girl causes MISUNDERSTANDINGS chapter

>>
>>134842639
Sounds like most soap operas.
>>
>>134842849
I don't understand why you're linking me to that post. What you said is the point that I was suggesting, that women are branching out into other demos because that's what Rumiko did and became a star, rather than any inherent dislike of the shoujo demo's restrictions.
>>
I've never read shoujo because I like battles and guys better.

I love yaoi because it's got all the sex and loving ravishment I want and no useless vaginas involved in sight.
>>
>>134843043
Yeah but thats gay dude.
>>
>>134842630
I haven't read Ao Haru Ride so I don't know what its like, but I meant creative stagnation specifically. There will always be a few gems in every era but it feels like most of the modern "good" shoujos are still about high school romance.
>>134842799

No, not really. Normal shoujo that has dicks on men and tits on women who get in to a relationship isn't gay at all.

Because women want to be treated like shit and fucked without you giving a flying fuck about their needs or feelings.
Stop getting mad about it, women want a strong man and displaying emotion or caring about their feelings/opinions makes you a beta loser in their eyes and therefore unattractive.
It's simply women's nature and you should learn how to use it to your own advantage.

Seemed like a pretty natural response to learning of the attempted rape and murder of your girlfriend who is practically the only reason you have the will to keep on living in the dead world.

Personally I'm more afraid Ango will be the hero of this arc and everyone will suddenly forgive him (not because I don't want him to earn forgiveness but because if he does it that way it will be totally unsatisfying and also remove too much of the tension (which I love) from the group.

So you like haremshit love octagons? Because shounen love stories often have love triangles too. They're practically unavoidable in any genre.
>>
>>134847553
So do most romance series for any demographic. Or they're already in a relationship really early on, which is fine, but isn't really a love story.

Okay, except that doesn't really mean anything nor relate to love triangles because most of them don't involve actual sex anyways. Especially the harem series.

Femanons truly are dumb and unable to follow a simple conversation.

>I don't like love triangles
>So you like harem octagons?

>Proceed to post something completely unrelated
What?

In harem octagons the MC doesn't get a lot of pussy. In fact he gets pretty much none till the very end, and even then they probably wont fuck for another decade.

In the love triangles generally the girl picks one and they fuck. You're really not making any sense here.
>>
>>134847446
I think the other anon says it's wrapping up because all the characters are getting closer and closer to a meeting together and there's been talk about them finding a good place to live in. Which would serve as a way to end the series with the remaining characters finding closure and moving towards the future.

But it's true there's still mysteries left about Sado and other plot points and conflicts to resolve so there's still much to see before it ends.

Very constructive post that completely blew apart my argument and clarified your point. Top quality and follows rule 6 to a T.

pretty much this, I hope you're both right though.
>>
>>134847908
Harem mc gets all the bitches and they are all pure. He also loves all his girls very dearly and protects them all from harm.

Reverse harem is full of ntr and rape fantasies and are filled with impure sluts who fuck random men even when they know it's wrong and they will get treated like shit by the guy.
>>
>>134848133
Says the anon while she shitposts.

>>134848130
Supposed to be demographics, but to an extent they can qualify as a genre because everything under usually follows a common theme and has the feel of it being shounen or shoujo.

I can read something without knowing what demographic it is and usually tell if it's shoujo/shounen/seinen/josie. There are a few that break the mold though and are hard to tell.

What it truly comes down to is where it's published anyways.

>>134848197
>Reverse harem is full of ntr and rape fantasies and are filled with impure sluts who fuck random men

Love triangle isn't reverse harem, for one. Two that's a huge generalization, because tons of ''reverse harems'' or love triangles, the MC is a pure maiden virgin and often remains that way even after the series ends and they're in a relationship.
More often than not the MC picks one guy and it's the only guy they fuck/lose their virginity to.

Josie is what you're thinking of. Truly filled with NTR shit. Shoujo has some but not nearly as much.

Regardless of Ango's brain problems Arashi's past has shown that he's fairly possessive/protective of his gf to the point of stabbing other people if he sees her being harassed. Maybe he'll change but it's a good thing he doesn't seem interested in guns.

Personally I like that we have conflicts like these in 7seeds that fit so well with the characters. I like that the characters have flaws that lead to their problems and that it doesn't feel like the conflict was written just for the sake of drama.

What I like most about 7 seeds is that for the most part the entire cast feels like they have agency.

Natsu no Zenjitsu is good besides MC being relatively immature, it's not shoujo, but it's an interesting romance story.

They're nice. Tokyo Babylon's one of my favorite manga.
Currently reading X and that's pretty good too.
>>
>>134852573
I like their weirdness. Just sitting down and reading a single chapter will sometimes put me in a very foreign sort of headspace. I often feel permeated by a sense of ambiguity and mystery, but it's of the sort that I will want to pursue it. It feels a little like chasing the rabbit down the hole and then jumping in yourself for the sense that Wonderland is to be found at the bottom.
>>
Any manga with male yanderes?

Any in which heroine gets her be stolen by another girl?

I'm not against shoujo specifically but the genre as a whole tends to be harem husbando trash.

Ango will die, he is the only character without a single ship. Ryo has the cute brown girl even if he is the actual murderous asshole of the group.

Is the 80s anime better than the 2005 one?

Manga is great but I'm worried the author will die before it's done.

I too would like to know the answer to this.
>>
>>134852573
I have a lot of nostalgia for them, but looking back on it they were a pretty mixed bag. Magic Knight Rayearth was my very first manga, I actually looked up to lady Aska as a role model somehow, I read it in 4th grade and I still think it's excellent. Cardcaptor Sakura manga was not as good but its anime is god-tier. Miyuki-chan in Wonderland freaked me out as a kid but I kind of like it now. Those are the only ones I've re-read recently, all the others I only read once around 10 or 15 years ago or something, but I remember not liking Chobits or Angelic Layer. Tokyo Babylon felt like a chore to read but maybe I'd appreciate it now. RG Veda and xxxHolic were just okay. Tsubasa was a train wreck but sometimes entertaining. And I've been holding off on reading X all these years because of the hiatus but maybe it's time to give up.

Really? Maybe I'll check it out then. I don't even remember why exactly I didn't like the manga, I think the battle system wasn't engaging maybe and it felt kind of repetitive like pokemon. I'll still watch it though, you never know how differently you'll perceive things as an adult.
