Original > Brotherhood
Story and characters were more interesting and the atmosphere and tone more fitting.
Brotherhood had more action, more unrealistic acrobatics/teleportation, worse animation and followed the manga more closely which is not always a good thing as seen with the "comedy".
Both had shit use of alchemy and terrible endings. Although original is again more interesting in these categories. Both had good soundtracks.

At least wait until your last thread dies.
>>134801236
Other OP purposely bumped his shitter thread right before it was pruned. Litteraly right before. Can't be helped.
brotherhood is a shit , the ending is so cliche and the character are poor develoment
>>134801209
>Story and characters were more interesting
nope.
>and tone more fitting.
translation: "Muh grimdark edginess".
Brotherhood did just about everything better. Original had better OPs and EDs.
>>134801448
>and the character are poor develoment
U wot m8?
Especially Mustang was FAR better written and developed in Brotherhood, same thing with the Hoenheim. And dat Aneue Armstrong, man!

Roy was crap in Brotherhood.
>>134801911
>Roy was crap in Brotherhood.
I don't think we watched the same show.
Now, lets sit and remember what he did in the original:
>"I MUST BECOME FUHRER!"
"Good idea Roy. Now sit down and let the people around do your job, because Fuhrer never works, and you suck."
>"...ok."
>>134801998
>roy was good in brotherhood because he's so epic
Nah, 03 Roy was better because it actually explored his PTSD over his actions.
>>134802353
>wants to become the leader of a fucking military country
>emoes over PTSD
does not compute. The 03 original literally shits itself at half point when anime-original stuff starts. The pacing goes shit at that point too.
Cool story, bro.
>>134801209
is that gif from 2003 or brotherhood?
>>134802541
03.
>>134802477
>a character with PTSD is actually affected by it
Wow, how unlikely.
>>134802541
2003
>>134802597
You gotta be fucking thick to fail to see the contradicting elements in the 03's writing.
>>134801209
>the atmosphere and tone more fitting
I never understood this argument. You can see the original series get darker as it passes the point where the manga diverges. I think it's a case of the original series being your defacto FMA tone and fact that brotherhood does not get as dark is jarring to you.
Both series are good, and as someone who enjoyed the manga, I was super happy when brotherhood happened.

>Brotherhood did just about everything better
Brotherhood is one of those anime that doesn't actually excel at anything. Mediocre OST, mediocre action, with neither sakuga or strategy, and mediocre plotting and characterization. Villains are cardboard cutouts and morality within the fictional universe is black and white; even the like of Toriyama and Kishimoto are better at characterizing antagonists, such as Frieza and Zabuza, and setting up fights that are relevant to either the plot or to the development of the primary characters (Gaara vs Lee was a classic underdog conflict of talent vs hardwork; something like Sloth vs Armstrong was just there to eliminate another of the poorly characterized seven). So 2003 blows Brotherhood out of the water, and as far as the superiority of its OST, in general is concerned, there seems to be little to debate. Brotherhood is a solid battle shounen; neither bad or outstanding (if I had to give it any additional credit, it would be in regard to its superior pacing by the standards of its genre). 2003 impressed me with the exploration of its underlying themes.

What about the plot in the second half of the 2003 version? Did it improve in some way? Sure, it did have some interesting themes that went explored but what about the rest?
And what about a much superior work that is Legend of Galactic Heroes?
>>134803072
Cool story bro.

Gotta keep bumping it, huh?

Nice tumblr gif.

I think what most people choose to forget about the second half of the FMA original series is the amount that it absolutely FUCKED everything it set up.
When Hoeinheim went to fight the one lead antagonist they started straight up summoning dragons and shit.
The homunculus were straight up neigh invincible. The only way to be killed was if you
A) Had their bones
AND
B) Had them trapped in an alchemy circle
IF you couldn't do both then you couldn't fuck with them. UNTIL this was retconned and you could magically use their life force in order to open the portal which killed the homunculus for some inane reason. The only reason it was retconned in the movie was because Envy/Greed were literally unable to be killed because of bad writing.
Wrath/Sloth were completely inferior to the brotherhood counterparts end of story.
The fact that the mystical portal that held all of the answers was simply an alternate universe were nazi germany won was completely retarded.

>The fact that the mystical portal that held all of the answers was simply an alternate universe were nazi germany won was completely retarded.
I don't think you really understood what was going on at all.
>>134806937
That was literally the portal of truth.
In Brotherhood the portal contained your alchemic powers and essentially the Truth/God.
In Original the portal contained Nazi Germany.
>Instead of being a source of alchemical knowledge, the Gate in the 2003 series is the origin of alchemical energy and a dimensional portal to another world
Where when you use alchemy you're actually using the souls of the deceased from Nazi germany.
So the fact that Ed and his Teacher saw the gate and then were like "it contained all the knowledge in the world and we don't need alchemy circles anymore" MAKES NO SENSE in one of the iterations.
Literally read that definition without laughing.
>source of all alchemy
>dimensional portal
WOT
>>134807063
Furthermore let me just add on that:
WHY WAS THERE A NAZI GERMANY
Your fucking telling me that in the FMA-verse without alchemy America was unable to win WWII?
Like fucking why.
There was no history lesson where they were like "if we didn't have alchemy to fuck up hitler". The closest thing FMA had going on was a vaguely similar Middle Eastern War. They could've simply made an alternate 1984-esque reality instead. I don't know how a reality where technological advances leads anywhere to Nazis. As it was for a reality that was supposed to be more advanced with technology for having lacked alchemy, Ed's original world was far more advanced with automail. Which makes EVEN LESS SENSE.
>>134806382
>UNTIL this was retconned
You do realize that most of 03 FMA isn't canon right? All that is anime original.
Then again you'really an obvious troll.
>>134807254
It's canon in the 03 continuity...
Are you fucking high?
Everything I talked about was solely about the 03 canon that people love to say is better than the FMA: Brotherhood stuff.
>>134807254
Whoops ignore me, misread everything.
Like I said in the other thread, the manga was a well written battle shounen, the anime agk-tier edgy and suffering garbage.
The manga was about about making the characters grow, the anime was about making them suffer.
>>134803072
Reread the manga.
The original had better pacing and build-up, which lead to much stronger emotional moments with the deaths of Hughes and the Chimeras.
Characters were hit and miss in both, with the original standing out with the sheer amount of fucking stupid OCs and elevated extras.
The ending and story in the original were pretty meh for the second half and effectively anticlimatic or pointless at times, but it did have a much cooler weakness/origin for the Homunculii, that were sadly undermined by making little sense with the behavior and motivation of the characters.
The original FMA is still considered one of the greatest anime of the 21st century so far. Some publications list it as one of the greatest of all time even. '03 was more groundbreaking at the time of release and will leave behind a stronger legacy.
>Original is better
I agreed the manga is better than brotherhood

Nazi Germany didn't win in the portal. You misunderstood WW1 for WW2 too. In the movie Ed is in post war Germany, during the first attempts of Hitler to seize power.
