Guys, it is almost 2016.
Touhou has now had multiple manga series to its canon. It has got a wide variety of characters, interesting stories, and a huge amount of creative potential. With the right direction, it can be as big as Pokémon, Yokai Watch, One Piece, etc.
And it's not like ZUN hasn't already tried. We've yet to see the animation Ufotable presented even though it has been shown in theaters at special events multiple times. There are also many fanimations on YouTube and Nicovideo.
What is keeping Touhou from taking off? Is it ZUN himself? Is it the lack of a budget? Is it the fear of backlash from the fandom?

>Is it ZUN himself?
Yes
>>134800118
No.
ZUN doesn't want an anime to be made, but he is okay with fanmade projects.

Wasn't he pretty butthurt when the top tier seiyuus were voicing the characters?

>tfw we'll never see Cirno dominate everyone
From YouTube:
"Because if an official anime was released, then everything that happens in that anime becomes canon. Touhou is driven by the fans and its fandom. The fanart, fanmusic, the fangames, fan lore even, everything is done by the fans! ZUN is the creator of a world where we have a lot more freedom than you think, where we can make things a reality. Such is the power of Gensokyo, and an official anime would only destroy that magic. Would you risk that? Would you risk years upon years of hard work from fans, the stories they have created, the lore they revel in, the humor, action, drama, horror and genuine fun they have made, given to them by a series bullet hell games that now have over a hundred characters, all because you want an anime? No, I would never stand for that. That is not the Touhou I know."

while I do think that involving an anime studio may cause a tighter control on what the fans could produce which is bad, the official mangas and books already give a set personality to characters.
>Canon mangas
Literally what? I bet you faggots cant even link one
>>134801138
...are you for real?
>>134801344
How could I have been missing this for all this time?
33 chapters?
>>134801344
ah,somebody took the bait.
Thanks for the mango
I don't understand why an anime can't be made and still be considered "not necessarily canon".
>>134801377
yes. 33 chapters full of canon.
>>134801463
It's not really bait when it can be Google'D in 5 seconds flat. That's not the only one, fyi.
>>134801377
It's not the only one
>>134801465
I don't understand why he cares, fans always ignore canon.
>>134801518
i like how that image has the hooks in an impossible position making the image itself also bait

Because there is no story, nor even actual personalities to the girls. Touhou is nothing but a generic shmup with badly drawn and poorly defined characters that got a huge autistic following of the very most shallow casuals imaginable due to the IOSYS songs being "epic memes", much like Vocaloid and Hatsune Miku.
All you can really do with a Touhou anime is make up random shit, which will only serve to get the autists that made up their pwn fanon for Touhou butthurt, so in the end, there's really nothing to be gained from letting Touhou be a containment series for the attention whore casuals, along with Vocaloid, Kancolle and all the other meme franchises.
>>134801686
*be anything more but a containment series
Why is this still be asked? ZUN does not want a anime because it can damage the franchise and the lack of control he would have if it ever gets green lite. Also, Touhou does have a canon, no matter what the fandom loves to say.
>>134801686
>Because there is no story, nor even actual personalities to the girls
But it has both.
If an anime ever were made it would just be filled with fan favorite trash characters like everyone in the SDM. No thanks.
>>134801939
Don't reply.

It's not that an anime will damage the franchise. ZUN is just too busy drinking beer to spend the necessary time required to make a good anime.
An anime wouldn't do any more to ruin the franchise than the mangas. Manga is more popular than anime in Japan anyway. I think it's a great idea, making an anime in the same style the mangas are done, with it's own original protagonist and story. Or even an adaptation of one the manga themselves. Or just give MAIKAZE a bigger team and more money so they can continue Musou Kakyou. Miyuki Sawashiro as Marisa is hnnmmngh
