He tried saving the princess without hurting anybody at the start, then all those plans backfired. After he broke and endured all the shit in season 1 he realized that the only way realistic to achieve peace was to force it. The peace the princess created is ridiculous, she gave their enemies who have an advantage with resources Aldnoah and is open for them to research the activation factor. She sold Vers out.
I barely even remember what A/Z was about. There was a conflict between Mars and Earth, tons of mecha battles and a princess in coma, but that's about it.
