How is it inconsistent? The pacing of the individual stories is perfectly fine, they even properly separated the timeskips with eyecatches or something like that. If you were somewhat lost at some point of the movie then you just weren't paying attention I guess.

Fair enough. I don't remember ending with any questions or doubts about the movie so I believe those answers you're looking for are there even if they are not explicitly shown. The timeskips allow you to interpret the characters or what happened before/after as you wish.
