The only thing I cared for in that anime was Maka, so I was very disappointed with the author trying so hard to make her shit about halfway through the series...

Considering the anime ending was trash, yes.
The manga didn't exactly have the perfect finale, not by a long shot, but as long as you like the stylish stupid fun that Soul Eater provides it definitely keeps delivering that all throughout the course of the manga.
Isn't Black Star basically a way more obnoxious OPM that elevated himself to tier 1 instead of tier 0? What did OPM do right that Black Star did wrong?

Black Star we genuinely see his hard work and training throughout the series as well as their eventual payoffs in his power.

Black Star was literally soloing Asura for most of the final fight..
Shinigami's top power was so vague he was probably stronger, and Kid probably is now as well since inheriting his power, but aside from that, Black Star was leagues above other characters.

The Star Clan was a bunch of powerhungry renegades that became so strong and dangerous, that they were deemed a threat to world peace and exterminated and Black Star inherited a lot of that power. Tsubaki was also one of the most versatile and powerful weapons.
Maka's the most normal of the three considering she was largely raised by her dad, who although was a powerful Weapon, didn't really help Maka much since she was a Meister and her partner's a pianist with an inferiority complex.
