>the manga was too short
>the anime even shorter
but damn I enjoyed this series. Why don't they make stuff like this, narutaru and elfen lied anymore?
>>
>>134712648
The manga was too weird, what with everyone turning into aliens and what not
But yeah, it was a really fun ride.
>>

I find it funny how many Alien 9 threads we've had over the last few weeks.

Thanks Demo.

OP here. Could you explain to me what you enjoyed about this series? Because I really didn't get what you were supposed to enjoy or if it was a thought-provoking anime.

>>134712845
This is the first one i've seen.

>what you enjoyed about this series?
I personally enjoyed the "wtf-factor" and cute girls suffering, I didn't find it very thought provoking, but it was _fun_
>>
>>134712849
It had good atmosphere, maintained a consistent creepy, eerie, cutesy tone, and the music fit well. One of the best examples of this is when they go on their camping trip, and it's supposedly a normal outing for the girls, and the music has this upbeat melody, but also gives off an eerie feel to it like something is really wrong here, but nothing happens. This tone is maintained throughout the OVAs, and I can appreciate that.

Outside of that, it's not much. It seems to me to be a metaphor of growing up and going through puberty and how "alien" it all is, so I guess there's that if you're looking for some substance.
>>
>>134712849
There's not really any deep meaning (or I just didn't catch it). I just find the mix of cute and grotesque theme of the series fascinating.

Also kickass op https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOy0ep8iAds
>>
>>134713001
Because little girls suffer.

>It seems to me to be a metaphor of growing up and going through puberty and how "alien" it all is, so I guess there's that if you're looking for some substance.

Yeah if there's some kind of meaning it must be something like this.

You guys all missed what actually happened in the series. This essay is eye opening. http://www.katandnekomanga.ca/a-kats-view-of-alien-9.html

Ok, so I guess it all depends on the taste. But I found terribly inconsistent, with events happening, nothing explained, a hero that CONSTANTLY crying (and sometimes for nothing at all), a false air of Eva. In fact, I only "enjoyed" the first episode because it was unsettling. But after that, it was just boring.

> It seems to me to be a metaphor of growing up and going through puberty and how "alien" it all is
Funnily enough, it's what I understood as well when Yuri had the dream with the pool.
>>
>>134713492
>Funnily enough, it's what I understood as well when Yuri had the dream with the pool
Yeah, that's what drove it home for me to. It wasn't very subtle about it.
>>
>>134713569
Weren't the dreams anime only? At least I remember someone saying that.
>>
>As I said, most were left lost and confused by what just happened, but from a survivor’s point of view was clear. The boys had raped Yuri who then lashes out at anything alien (adult) until she found the only place she feels safe: her friend’s arms.
Do boys really rape at such a young age? I can understand the allegory but this is really unnecessary.
>>
>>134714194
First time watching anime? Which characters act their supposed age? How many live with their parents?
>>
>>134715272
I only mean that forcing a rape allegory on 12-year-old kids is really pushing it. I can understand the father loss and the more-than-ambiguous relationship between siblings but this is just shock value. Most rapists are aged 20-30 according the studies, and boys aged 12 are more interested in doing sports, having fun, and acting like idiots towards women rather than raping them.

The amount of new and cancerous is pretty nasty
>>
>>134720030
Why do you watch youtube anime reviews anon?
>>
>>134712648
I'm pretty glad they don't, actually. Elfen Lied and Narutaru were shit. Narutaru was an interesting piece of shit, at least, but still.
>>
>>134720248
Because I like to see how others view the series I've seen, often times forming a coherent reason for what made it great that I was unable to, or to understand what makes a series worth watching without spoiling much about it, but still giving a rough idea of what makes it unique.

Or for laughing at the reviewers jokes and how terrible a series is.
>>
>>134712849

Its more or less a child rape analogy.

That blogger never read the manga and must have had a terrible childhood to project that hard.

The series is meant to be a mindfuck, as are the authors other series (including the adaption of Yume Nikki).
>>
>>134723461
>Afternoon big 3 Mangaka
You mean "three mangaka I like who've published something in Afternoon at some point"?
>>
>>134723843

I never even read the blog since I watched it waaaay before and still came to the rape conclusion.
>>
>>134711117
I never thought I'd find a MC more annoying than Shinji or Yuki from Mirai Nikki.
This anime proved me wrong.
>>
>>134720030
At least demo is one of us.
>>
The violation of the body horror in it has similarities to rape, but I think trying to make sense of it as a rape allegory is twisting it to be something it's not.

And if it was written as one, it would seem weird to me that the mangaka has made an ero doujinshi with Kasumi getting raped her dad after he caught her being eaten out by Kumi.
>>
>>134726380
Like the scene where all the boys gang up on her? I think that's less an allegory for rape and more an allegory for "puberty and coming to terms with sexuality is scary." Like, she's confronted by boys who newly interested in her, and is afraid and defensive. The situation looks rapey, but like you said I don't know how that really fits in with the rest.
>>
>>134726651
Well yeah, they forced her to become an adult. She had drill hair like the teacher which pretty much means she lost her innocence to the boys.
>>
>>134726380
>>134726651
>>134727106
Plus the other girls got to experience the rape thanks to the Borgs though they had no idea what happened until they shared Yuri's dream.
>>
>>134723843
>>134726380
>>134726651
OP here. What you guys said. I believe trying to make it directly a rape analogy would be clearly going in the extreme direction, just like Kasumi might have a very ambiguous relationship with her brother without making it a "oh look, they have actually fucked".

I like the visuals and style of his manga but honestly they're way too deep for me. Like, I can't follow what's happening for shit. I way preferred the OVA to the original.
