Patlabor Movie 1 hit the spot, Movie 2 was a bit nebulous when it came to properly establishing its cast and conflicts. The first OVA series was a piss in the fucking wind.

I admit first ova had pretty bad episodes with seamonsters and shit, but I wouldn't classify it as a piss in the wind. If the ova was not your cup, the 40+ episode series is more of the same shit. Do the math from there.

Whoa, the sea monster episode was obviously the best episode of the OVA series. That's what Patlabor is all about, not those shitty last two episodes which came out of nowhere. That sea monster episode was one of the funniest eps I've ever seen in anime.

The first half of the TV series can get a bit boring with all those A GIANT THING IS RUNNING AMOK, BETTER CALL THE GIANT ROBOT POLICE TO KEEP IT IN CHECK episodes, but thankfully they stop doing those. The second OVA is great tho. That public bath and hostage situation episodes are hilarious.
