Because standalone stories like SM are easier to adapt. Money I guess. Also, age tends to see anime as a means for an end, the ends being VN sales, so their animes usually end up being nothing more than glorified commercials anyways.

It'd have to be an ova or something. Extra itself would be a very hard sale to make. ML is one of those series where you have to stick too it before you start getting the good stuff. Doesn't tend to work out very well in anime format, versus SM that jumps right into BETA killing and politicking without all the buildup ML is saddled with.
