I think I like Overlord because Maruyama wrote fun characters who can stand even without an actual story. Which helps because most of them don't get much focus anyways and still get lots of attention/discussion about their characters.

I think its because from every scene they are in you immediately understand what their character is and their personality via the actions/lines whenever they show up.
In the original japanese you're supposed to know who's talking by inflection so I guess it held up via translation to english that each character is distinct when they are talking so you never get blandness. Its always 'here is the vamp loli' 'here is the yandere succubut' 'here is the smooth criminal demon guy' and so the repetition helps build the idea of the character archetype in your head.

Lizards will definitely show up. Zaryushu is practically tailor made to fight Brain since Gazef died opposing Ainz to the end while Zaryushu did whatever it took to save his people and submitted. Both ended up sacrificing their lives, and the results of which are polar opposites, one lives one dies. Brain will definitely come across Zaryushu because of this one way or another just like he met both Shalltear and Sebas.
Either that or Climb. But my point is the Lizards have a purpose. They are the flip side of the humans, who keep struggling and making it hard for Ainz.
