What have you been watching lately?
I decided I wanted to go on a cyberpunk kick and watched the first episode of Midnight Eye Gokuu last night. It's so stupid and I love it. Really cool presentation, too. I'll probably watch the second tonight.

I recently finished Bubblegum Crisis, and before that I watched Iria Zeiram the Animation and Gunsmith Cats. All are really good, and highly recommend.
Next I plan to watch, You're Under Arrest, Tenamonya Voyagers, Natsuki Criis, Idol Defense Force Humming Bird, and Iczer (whenever the torrent completely seeds for that).
There was a really good pre-2000's tread about 2-3 weeks back which gave me this big backlog.
add genmu senki leda
Posting one of my favorite underrated retro anime. It's very flawed, but there's still some pretty cool stuff going on in there. Sort of a mix between Alien and Carpenter's Thing.
>>134523528
I really like Iczer. Gunsmith Cats was sort of fun, but it really didn't do much for me. I've watched You're Under Arrest, but I don't really remember anything about it.
>>134523123
I watched Kiki's Delivery Service, since I somehow missed that while going through my backlog.
Best Ghibli movie.
>>134523592
>add genmu senki leda
Can and will do, Thanks for the recommendation!
>>134523944
Are you talking about Lily C.A.T.? I think I watched that forever ago, but similar to you watching You're Under Arrest, I don't remember any of it.
>>134524178
For some reason or another, I haven't gotten around to watching Kiki yet. I plan to, but just haven't. Personally, my favorite Ghibli movie is Princess Mononoke.
Just finished giant Gorg. Why don't they make adventure mecha anymore?
Might need to re-watch Nadesico pretty soon
R.O.D. the TV was such a cozy watch. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was certainly good.
Been watching Hi-Speed Jecy and gonna do Bavi Stock soon.
>>134524380
Different audience demands. Robot toys don't sell like cute girls anymore. Is that not what Comet Lucifer was? The description made it sound like a fantasy mecha adventure, but I never bothered to watch it. I've been pretty tired of the recent brands of mecha anime. It's been a few years since I've seen a really good mecha show.
>>134524425
Yeah you do.
>>134524239
I can see that. I get how easy it is for someone not to share my enthusiasm for Lily CAT. The animation is uneven. The characters are ugly. The story is derivative. I still thought it was really cool, though.
A few years ago I spent an evening trying to sell it to people because the anime convention I work at happened to schedule it at my viewing room and obviously no one had heard of it. Its something really easy to dismiss as soon as you see it.
>>134527525
I'll make sure to re-watch it. I don't recall disliking it at all, I just can't remember anything about Lily CAT.
Finally started watching Texhnolyze.
>>134523528
Idol defense force hummingbird was very silly and cheesy but a fun watch nonetheless.
1/10 of the way done
Demon city Shinjuku
>>134523123
Started a "Pre-2000 anime marathon" some weeks ago. Finished some movies and OVAs but slowly progressing trough series due my own lazyness.
Currenlty watching:
Shadow Skill
Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko
Texhnolyze
Boogiepop Phantom
Nadia
Pre-2000 OPs are catchy as fuck

>>134529045
This we can agree on music was on point
>>134523123
I'm beginning gorg at the moment, up to episode 6.
>>134523123
Nothing. I feel like I've already watched everything worth watching and there clearly isn't anything new coming out from pre-2000.
>>134529253
The english renditions of the Bubblegum Crisis songs were surprisingly good. I wish I could get clean versions of them, but I don't believe the english versions were ever released.

Have you read the manga yet?Tell me why
>>134530724
I've read most of it but I stopped right as they were about to fight the Sea-King. Will probably catch all the way up over winter break.
The OST was ridiculously good too

ZZ Gundam. I just learnt I should never trust /a/ or /m/ again. It's great.
>>134530913
People just don't like ZZs MC
>>134530803
Indeed, the OST and how they used it was fantastic.
Now's a good time to pick the manga back up, with the boat being gone.
So here's a chance for a little discussion:
What is your favorite Pre-2000's anime/OVA? Why?
>>134530064
thought i was the only one. brings a tear to my eye. The most hated dub in anime history
About to start the LoGH gaiden. I finished the main series years ago and just now planning to get around to watching the gaiden.
Everything was better before they realized they could totally neglect every other aspect of their work as long as they had tits.
>>134531117
careful..too close to a request thread. Better to ask who your pre-2000 waifu is to fit in.
>>134531177
Was not my intention, but fair enough.
Rally's got just the right everything
>>134523123
Any guys in the US or UK watch anime on the scifi channel in the 90s?
>>134530913
I actually just finished ZZ the other day and Char's Counterattack yesterday.
The thing about ZZ, I agree with most that the first half is fucking irredeemable. When I heard talk about it I thought okay sure, a little lighthearted slice of life kind of thing is fine.
It's (80s) western cartoon-tier slapstick. I just can't understand the appeal. But yeah, it jumps hard back to Zeta levels of depressing. Which just feels schizophrenic, not like your usual genre shift.
Char's counterattack is a masterpiece. I somehow went in with zero spoilers. There was some moments where I was biting my nails in anticipation. That ending as well, dont' think I've seen anything like it.
>>134531278
used to love the summer marathon before it went to every Saturday. My vcr worked overtime then.
Has anyone else seen Dragon's Heaven? I'm curious as to what you guys think about it.
I thought it was alright, and certainly enjoyable, but nothing above average.
Yet I've heard from a few people that it is considered spectacular, and I can;t really figure out why.
>>134531016
I don't think it's Judau, I think it's the fact that it went from "serious war" to "goofy antics with Shangri-La kids" until about 20 episodes in. It contrasts greatly with 0079 and Zeta with presentation and character interactions so anyone that was invested in another series like that is going to be disappointed. If you don't have those expectations or don't mind the shift in tone, you'll likely enjoy it a lot more.
>>134524178
Kiki is my nostalgia Ghibli film. I can watch it anytime and still feel joy from it.
>>134531138
The most hated dub? I know /a/ typically doesn't like dubs, but what warranted bubblegum crisis receiving that title? I'm sure you're exaggerating a little, but I'm still curious. I thought the dub was pretty decent.
>>134531327
I remember on Cartoon Network there was a Sailor Moon "Lunar Eclipse" marathon. My sisters used up like two or three VHSes on it.
>>134531423
you obviously wasnt around in the 90s (not talking about just /a/). Yes..it was that hated.
>want to watch Montana jones
>nothing on Nyaa, only things available are shitty YouTube clips with Spanish subs
FUCK
ME
Anyone care to help a brother out?
>>134531492
But why was it that hated?
I thought the dub was pretty decent, especially considering the times. I know a lot of early anime dubs were very hit or miss, but I thought Bubblegum Crisis delivered well. Is it perfect, no. But hated? I can't see why.
>>134531747
No idea honestly. People hated all dubs back then with a passion but BGC was always singled out. Maybe because of it's popularity.
G GUNDAM
I like it
SHINING FINGER
Should I watch SPT Layzner, or finally get around to watching Dirty Pair?
Right at episode 56 of atomu (the color one). Saving it for a good time.
>>134532918
Layzner was garbage Dirty Pair is amazing especially the TV series.
Currently watching Hi Speed Jecy
>>134531344
Art style is really unique, though the generic animu girl kinda ruins it.
Nice watch overall. Wish there was a better release of it.
I guess Corrector Yui narrowly counts as pre-2000.
Nadia. I shall start watching Nadia today.
Threadly reminder that you still have more than enough time to watch the entirety of the Macross franchise before Delta starts airing and that now would be the perfect time for you to finally get into one of the most popular mecha franchises of all time.
You don't want to be left out and not be able to fully appreciate all the threads and discussions we will have about it now do you?
>>134531265
Blonde Rally is superior
I recently downloaded the Golgo 13 movie BD and muxed some somes into it. Hopefully it will be good. Is it good? Gotta admit I only did it because it's directed by the master Dezaki.
Also will Ganba ever be fully released in BD or any form really since it doesn't even have any subs to begin with.
>>134531344
it certainly was above average, nigga
>mfw I had the time to rec Perturbator some ultraviolent/cyberpunk 80s anime before he got chased off by /pol/tards who were mad that he didn't fully agree with them.
BOP
What's up with the last 2 episodes of key the metal idol are they supposed to be and hour long each?
What sites do you guys use to find pre 2000 anime? Every time I try to get something like Harlock or battleship Yamata the torrents dead or there is a watermark that covers a quarter of the screen.
I've finished watching Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki 1-2 OVA's. I watch it just to appreciate casual nudity and comedy antics.
>>134540279
Lurk more and you'll find out
All famous alder series are way to long for my taste. I guess I still have some movies to watch.
Silver Zero finished Flone.
Not bad, but nothing good to offer.
One more World Masterpiece Theater at least.
>>134540377
Could have spoon fed in the same time it took to write this.
I'm watching gundam 0079. I've watched the first 12 or 13 episodes and I'm a little bit disappointed so far because it's been nothing but nonstop action. I expected this show to focus more on the characters and politic judging from the thread. The last few episodes have been a lot better though and I like Char and Amuro, I just wish the show give them more screen time instead of constantly showing robot shooting at each other.
That fucking terrible but good jojo ova.
How do you guys make time for this many +50 episode anime? I wanted to get my /m/ on and watch some popular old mech shows to finally get some taste, but I'm still barely on UC Gundam halfway through Zeta, OVAs notwithstanding.
The longest I've ever watched wad Logh and that took 2 some months. How the fuck do people cruise through stuff like Yamato or Urusei Yatsura or 999?
Never forget
>>134541310
You could watch an episode a week and still finish each of them sooner or later.
>>134531344
You watch it for the art style, bizarre mecha designs, & good music. It's one of those OVA that would have been perfect if it was longer & had some story going for it. Pretty much the definition of all style, little substance.
>>134542034
style is substance
I watched Ao no 6-Gou yesterday, and it was pretty fun. I really liked the powerful moments with the music, and the story was nice and told what it needed to in a good way. Would recommend, only 4 episodes too so not much time is wasted if you don't like it.
The day before yesterday, I watched Dragoon. The first episode showed promise, but the story just ended with no conclusion and it wasn't even that good, it just kept adding characters, and the episodes weren't that interesting. Not bad, though, just really average, like a seasonal filler that most people drop before the season finishes. But it's short, so you can still watch it and not feel like you've wasted time
>>134524625
Loved it
>>134541414
Damn, Nadesico was so cheesy sometimes
I loved it
>>134523123
>I decided I wanted to go on a cyberpunk kick
I find it so fucking comfy to watch at night before i fall asleep
>semi-cold in room
>get 2 blankets and lay in bed
>put on some cyberpunk/dystopian stuff
>rain scene
>neon lights everywhere
>>134528313

>>134544505
there is nothing comfy about those, they are depressing and violent as fuck.
I remmeber watching the OAV of Battle Angel Alita when I was a kid, I didn't knew what it was. I felt like shit after that
>>134547112
I wasn't talking about Gunnm specifically, GitS is a prime example of that feeling right at the start of the movie.
Stuff like webm related too , even if its more of a dieselpunk genre
