I never claimed it was a 10/10 anime. But the writing isn't "abysmal" and the characters aren't "shallow", the characters do go trough changing experiences and improvement. Take MC for exemple, in the beginning of the show he is a lonely loser, who barely manages to talk a noob girl into helping him take down a boss. At the end of the anime, not only he managed to make friends by becoming social, but he learned the importance of allies as he donated all his money to build an army to help him.
Asuna, was a shy girl with no confidence in the beginning. She walked around with her face covered. By the end of the anime she is courageous, brave and confident.
The character's motivation is clear, and the writing is alright too, no major plot holes, or anything to sink the anime bellow a 6/10.
I rate it a 7/10. Its good.
