Ging might be a "better nen user" for whatever that means, but that's no way of knowing his combat strength considering nen can be used for literally anything. Whereas Netero had the grandest nen ability imaginable design just for fighting, his compatibility for the battle is a more guaranteed thing and he was fully willing to sacrifice his life, anyway. Ging probably wasn't at that stage.

Leorio was physically stronger than both Gon and Kurapika while on the Hunter Exam and Zoldyck arcs, if he were to seriously train in Nen he would be a top hunter. Remember he's been mostly studying medicine and only a little of Nen, self-taught to boot.

100% agree. It's like, the show has every shounen theme and trope, and is clearly shounen, but it's HYPER violent and doesn't treat that violence with any form of regard. Hundreds of people die in a second and its just like, none of the main character even pay attention to it.
The Chimera Ant arc was by far the worst offender. It had insane levels of violence, and previous minor character dying left and right, new character dying left and right, and a level of fucked up that violent seinen often don't reach.
There's also how there doesn't seem to be any sort of end goal for the main characters, how some of them haven't even shown up for the longest time, and how unconnected all of the arcs feel. I don't get HxH and I stopped liking it after the mafia/spider group arc.
