What "earlier shows"? The ones that survived the test of time because of their critical acclaim or, in the case of things like Ginguiser, because of their outrageous awfulness? Surely you're not going to tell me every single show was better on a season-by-season basis? The trash is forgotten, abandoned, never released in digital format. This gives you a frame of reference mostly composed of actually good shows. Most modern shows are archived in at least some way, regardless of their quality (in most cases).
"Older is better" is a universally biased form of comparison, in any medium. For every Mona Lisa and Return of the Prodigal Son there's a bunch of incoherent poorly drawn doodles someone tried to pass off as art, for every David and Venus de Milo there's a plenthora of poorly sculpted, anatomically incorrect statues. It's just that nobody knows they ever were.
Anon, you shouldn't blindly discard modern creations and generalise. The passage of time separated the wheat from chaff when it comes to old things. For contemporary art, you will have to do it yourself.
