There's difference between artstyle and character design, you have a problem with Chaika's character design, but the artsyle of chaika is literally the same as 90% of anime.
Different artstyle would be something like Aku no Hana, Ping Pong etc.

I only felt like mentioning the scout hat because it wasn't a fedora. It's all a matter of opinion anyway, even when you try to take an objective parameter (like how close to reality a face looks like) that doesn't make it objectively better or worse because it's animation and it's meant to be heavily stylized. As for the pic you posted, yeah I really do like those faces a lot mainly because the girls have an actual nose and lips.
I just finished watching this and whenever Jamie was on screen I could only question her hair.

For an anime art style it's super expressive with the slightly filled in eyebrows and big mouths. In still images it looks weird with the jutting chins but it works better in motion than more generic character designs would.

One thing I remember about Chaika was that, yes, as a story it was just about as poor as I can stand without dropping. The other thing I remember about Chaika is how flat, plastic, and almost cartoony the art was. It looked like the colors were done with the flood fill on MSpaint.
