The whole point of the rebirth was in a way changing that love into something else - Femto does not feel pain, and without that, he cannot truly love. All that he was left with was the damage that love had caused him, and his first acts were to enact his brand of divine justice. It is a twisted metaphor for Griffith's heartbreak."

And when he wanted to assert himself, he couldn't even attempt it.
So yeah, when he gets the chance he throws everyone under the bus, and spites Guts, to mostly fully mark his reassertion of the relationship he wanted with Guts, and the world, that of a superior being.
He just can't take NOT being the best, really.

I don't actually think that Guts will kill Griffith.
They keep hinting that if Guts continues down this path for revenge, he will lose everything that he has. The armor will consume his body and soul, and he won't be able to be with Casca.
In the final moments of the story, after fighting with Griffith, Guts will win and get the opportunity to finish him off. Then he spares him and tells him about how the only reason he left Griffith's side in the first place is because he wanted to be respected and be an equal friend in his eyes.
Griffith for the first time will feel regretful for the actions he has taken and take his own life while simultaneously taking out other God Hands or some bullshit like that so he can end up being a hero.

I really don't get why griffith has sex with the princess just because guts left him. Sure he was heartbroken and without guts he lost the will to accomplish his dream but that was simply insanely stupid.
Just a few weeks/months later he could have killed the king, married the princess, kept casca and ruled the kingdom. Guts would have come back sooner or later anyway
