Well, I mean, if the fusion dimension had academia and xyz dimension had heartland, not having synchro with a classist city would have been weird. I just feel that the arc would have been better if it had simply been revealed that Reiji had made arrangements before bringing all of the lancers to Synchro and as soon as they enetered the dimension they found out they were registered in the friendship cup, and the council had pledged their support should one of the lancers win the tournament. Then have a first round battle royale between the lancers to trim down the tournament ladder. The motorcycle shifts the paradigm to something more interesting than them just running around. Before the limiter of action cards was finding them, in Synchro the limiter is being the first one to get it or getting it at all since you only have a fraction of a second to grab it before you speed by. Now getting action cards is a more dynamic process that your opponent can more easily interfere with like smashing you with their cycle or speeding by and taking it first. I also find it personally more exciting to watch them attempting to get to an action card before an attack hits them/their monster, doing that on a motorcycle is more enthralling to me than on foot or on a pink hippo in a silly hat.

Sounds more like you want a completely different show, because it sounds like everything I think is the show improving is what you dislike and I think the first 20 episodes are awful.
I enjoy SoL and fun moments in any show I watch, I love the first season of GX when it was all SoL. But the first 20 episodes of Arc-V are not the first season of GX, it has all the materials to have fun SoL but all the duels and gimmicks are awful. It almost is like those episodes are a Yugioh series begrudgingly, as the duels actively hold back a lot of it. Entertainment duels became much better as the show went on, the start is just sloppy and bad.

Cross-Over was good. It took the "We can make a duel look like anywhere" aspect of Action Duels and took it a step further to "We can make ANYWHERE a duel where you need flips and tricks and shit to get Action Cards". Seeing Yuya flipping around in the Commons' dilapidated buildings was honestly pretty cool and could've been even cooler if the context of the duel wasn't utterly retarded.
Cross-Over Accel has plot/backroom reasons for operating as it does, but drains the potential "coolness" factor from not only In-Stadium Action Duels (because no thematic Action Cards in cool themed arenas), but also Cross-Over (because it's a fucking racetrack) and Riding Duels (because no Speed Counters and no SP Spell Cards).
Somebody brought up the potential for the Friendship Cup to basically be Mario Kart. That honestly probably would've at least held our attention for more than 2 duels before getting boring, but animation constraints.
Once again, budget issues keep Card Games On Motorcycles from actually being interesting.
