I think they'll likely break up after a decade at most. The only guy I know who hooked up with a childhood friend had broken up with her because they both just got bored. You've known them too closely for too long, and have spent too much time in the friend-zone.
It's hard to explain, but it makes sense to me. Thus, childhood friend endings are usually endings that won't last. So it's pointless to ship them.
