A show about demons and demon lords having high stakes fights isn't taking itself too seriously.
The story trying to be more complicated and deeper than it is, with hollow philosophilcal babble that serves no purpose other than to be pretentious would be taking itself too seriously. Shinmai Maou is a power fantasy haremshit show that plays things very straightforward.
Real talk i don't even watch this shit, as soon as the BD's out, only the ecchi scenes get watched. Everything else is skipped.
