Don't expect perfect stylistic continuity when the guy's taken a break for so long.
He first needs to get a feeling for the art again, and even once he's done that, it'll still look different from before.
To be honest, Miura has gotten sick a bunch and overworked himself to hell and back, I wouldn't be surprised if he got a burnout from his old level and is sticking to simpler more consistent techniques.

We know Miura is a perfectionist when it comes to his art. I'm sure he's proud of his work on Berserk but his work is becoming inconsistent. With each volume, the art work was better than the last but now this isn't case in my opinion. As you say, maybe he is applying a more simple technique to keep with the monthly releases and he'll maybe go into more detail with each chapter when it comes to the next volume.
