Genetic engineering is about adding or removing whole genes from a genome, including the insertion of genes from other species. Given that, it's not a huge stretch to insert some set of genes into an egg that will allow it to accept a set of chromosomes that didn't come from a legitimate sperm. Gene selection today for GE is done by tracking gene function. There is no gene in the mammalian class that allows egg to egg pro nuclei fertilization. This is a completely different scenario. No genes need to be transplanted to the final "product", so there is no need to wait several generations. I'm talking about test tube lesbian babies, not engineering a breed of lesbians that can reproduce unaided.

Completely beside the point. Peanuts have been spent on getting this stuff to work, which is not invalidated by researchers writing optimistic "potential applications" passages in their conclusions.
The point is that we know fuck all about how the genome translates into complicated organisms, and splicing a bunch of genes together to make lesbian babies would probably be done the same way GMO gene insertions are done: splicing thousands upon thousands of samples at random and waiting to see which sample actually survives and does what you want it to. There is no need to wait until we have more knowledge of a process we know almost nothing about but have still been able to tinker with. Meaning that they could figure out a way to do it in the next six months if they put a lot of money behind it and get lucky. Or it could take another 50 years, no one knows.
