why is Japan so obsessed with giving stupid names to fixed moves?
Are they not aware that historically a lot of named attacks were just showy-but-useless shit with cool names that were retarded to use in real fights?
Waving your sword in a nice symmetric geometric pattern and slaving yourself to form and style would be no match for someone who doesn't have a fixed form but improvises what they need to do to win based on first principles.

That's essentially Japans equivalent of YA fiction. As it turns out a lot of middle-high school aged kids think it's cool if every attack has an elaborate name, even more so if it has a forced english reading. That's why almost every single entry in that cesspit of a genre has them. The same can be said about almost every other frequently recurring element, that shit has been boiled down to a formula at this point.

Nobody is talking about simple maneuvers. LN characters don't yell the name of basic slashes or punches either. He's obviously referring to the special attacks which all have unnecessarily long and elaborate names. It's stupid, doubly so if the name read in English despite being written in Japanese, triply so if the actual name appears on the screen when it's used.

Again, the problem is not the name. When you have a certain one-hit-kill move, there's no point in not shouting out its name.
