It lacks the humor but is overall pretty good, or at least the first season+ova. Movie was pretty meh and I haven't watched so the new season. Brilliant OP+ED's. Be prepared for a high body count, people die a plenty and stay dead in Fafner.

Firs episode on the BD got its runtime doubled. Being able to watch the fights in a not bit-starved makes rewatching it more than worth it.

Exodus is superb.
The other season is a little weird because of the writer swap + BUDGET, but it's really really good.
I do agree that the movie was kinda meh, but it gets retroactively better since it introduces a lot of concepts that Exodus plays up in big ways.

Did you watch it with the crappy subtitles? Because movie is great. I didn't like it that much the first time because the translation was awful but second time I watched it with the fixed subtitles and I loved it.

The movie is easily the weakest entry in the franchise, but yeah it gets surprisingly better with context that Exodus develops.
It's still good, but it needed maybe 10 more minutes just to smooth things over.Movie 2 is gonna be the hypest shit though.

Most of MJP takes on a bit more serious tone after about episode 8. While Fafner certainly does have a little more oomph behind it's punches, MJP isn't lacking for weight, or did you miss the stabbening, just to name one example?
Fafner has at least equal reliance on CG.
MJP is also billed as a comedy, if someone doesn't like zany antics, they should just avoid the show in the first place.

MJP was literally just built upon standard mecha and alien invasion cliches, but considering almost every other recent mecha tried to do something uniquely retarded to stand out, MJP was actually pretty good for just refining a tried-and-true formula.
