Toriyama REALLY doesn't keep track of timelines or pay much attention to that so its pretty arguable that that's not being retconned or at least being changed. Timeskips are more of a storytelling technique and keeping track of things like ages and shit is inconsequential.
But when will Krillin teach Marron how to fight? It'd be a waste not to train her at least the basics.
