is a meme that people keep using simply because they're too new and like imitating what they see others do.
XD is probably not that bad as people make it out to be as long you're not being a complete asshole spamming its usage everywhere or completely retarded using it with nothing to add.
>old /a/
>>133919198
There will hardly even be people using it anymore, just corporations and NSA agents.
>>133919528
>old /a/
>Meguca
>>133919475
And I think it's not difficult to just accept certain norms when you are part of a community.
/a/ hates emoticons. Posting them is a sign that you need to lurk more or that you are intentionally breaking the rules.
In either case, you're in the wrong.
>>133919596
I don't know much about old /a/, but current /a/ is just boring as fuck.
>>133919528
Is that the grandma from Dennou Coil? Was that a thing?
I miss these cancer pyramids.
It's been years since the last one.
>>133919590
Unless you're being retarded and associating global rule 6 with emoticons, I really doubt there's any rule that it breaks.
Assuming mob mentality against emoticons is fine and all, but that doesn't mean you can blatantly claim things. I'll agree its cancer, but it shouldn't be called out every time on its rare occasions.
/a/ died after Geass Sundays.
>>133919747
I call rare cancer out more than I do rampant cancer. It's just not worth the effort to try and attack every single niggerposter nowadays. But cancer that shows up rarely and that almost every regular /a/ user avoids is the stuff worth calling out, in my opinion.
>>133919822
>attack every single niggerposter
I did for a week. It wasn't impossible. Then the filter came in.
>>13391985
I wonder why people see the filter as a win or something.'
It's not like people have stopped using it, it's just that now instead of resembling /sp/ memers, they resemble gaia posters.
>>133919800
And what would I put on a cancer pyramid today? Fags from all the generals. Bait? Other boards?
Does anyone have the picture when /a/ changed all the names on the 50 states map?
>>133919777
>Geass Sundays
Remember the fucking flood whenShirley dies.
>>133919920
That's why I stopped making cancer pyramids.
At least the cancer of old had personality. The cancer of today is just reposted cancer from 5 years ago.
>>133919905
If you look at some of the other boards, it is a win. From looking over all the boards before and after, it may has well have saved /pol/ despite people trying to work around it. But it's practically full of kids anyways. Other boards carried on because it made no difference to them whether or not it was nigger shit or weaboo shit. But for /a/, it only made it so crossboarders didn't stand out. I don't think it will be cool anymore now that some of the other boards aren't doing it. It'll die out, but I'm not sure that niggerposting would have. Have you seen how long boards stick to the same old memes? /a/ might do so, but compared to other boards they aren't spewed every other post.
>>133919949
We stopped liking memes, so now most of our cancer is imported from other boards or else just bait.
>>133920009
This one is probably my favorite.
>>133920027
When did Drawfag generals start anyways?
>>133920077

And this was the last one.
/a/ got REALLY bad from mid-2012 until about mid-2014, then it started getting tolerable again.
>>133920084
Just imagine, anon: There was once a time on 4chan when generals DIDN'T EVEN EXIST.
Think about that.
>>133920100
>then it started getting tolerable again
2015 has been completely shit in my opinion. I'd like to think it's gotten better slightly in the last few months, but who knows. From a mangafag perspective, it's been pretty awful. Especially 2014. /a/ follows even less manga than ever. And it's all pretty much garbage.
>>133920169
Yeah, I'm probably a little blinded by the fact that I got 131313131 and 133333333. /a/ has been pretty bad in 2015, too.
I do really enjoy the ARC-V and DBS threads, though.
>>133920169
> And it's all pretty much garbage.
I disagree, we've had some nice threads for IB and Tsugumomo and stuff this year. 2014 was pretty bad manga-wise, though, yeah.
>>133920198
You are the cancer.
>>133920142
The thing is, when people used to get bored, they did random shit (instead all of this circlejerking garbage everyone does now). Like, the last time people divided up images to redraw them was ages ago. As I recall, the last one was during when SnK aired in 2013. That is when I think everything really just turned to shit.
>>133918979
God knows why people save get shit and claim its funny or "a great moment on /a/" it's the biggest cancer related thing ever.
>>133920304
Looks like someone has never got repeating digits. Oh and for the record the biggest cancer on /a/ are the tripfags.
>>133920268
>>133920263
/v/ has those threads fairly often and they have so much circlejerking garbage they needed a second board to hold the excess.
>>133920355
>Drawfag Thread 328
Did they restart numbering or what? Because I see:
>Drawfag Thread - 1636
>>133920390
No, anon.
The drawfag threads have been going on FOR. THAT. LONG.
I remember when the drawfag threads first started. They constantly kept getting banned by the mods. Eventually, the mods gave up.
And now, you have what you see today.
>>133920385
From an outsider perspective, it doesn't look like /v/ has much of a generals problem though. Sure they have other problems, but not this one. Even if it's not true, first impressions count and from what I can tell, other boards evidently know /a/ is full of generals.
>>133920142
yes things change
just think there was once a time when the owner of the site was a white man
>>133920451
The reason /v/ doesn't have generals is because they got so bad and clogged the board up so much that moot created /vg/ to contain them all.
>>133920470
But as far as they're concerned, it's not really the same board.

Shite, it's hard to believe /a/ really talked like that back then. I wonder if this is what it's like for Norweigans to revere their proud Viking ancestors and then be reminded they were basically niggers.
>>133920486
I think his point is that having random activity threads like the other anon was talking about doesn't stop generals cancer from happening, since /v/ had both until they got a containment board.
moot broke my script so I can't get septs anymore. Maybe I'll figure out what changed and make another.
I said back then I would dedicate my life to destroying /a/.
And I have succeeded.

>>133920519

>>133920355
That Draw Troll entry is the entire general situation in a nutshell. Mods aren't willing to deal with generals on the offchance they accidentally delete a thread where a chapter just came out.
>>133920574
If it was 133333332, I had literally no impact in what happened. You posted too early.
If it was 133333334...better luck next time. I have gotten two millions on /b/ and three on /v/, but only ONE on /a/, and there's a good reason for that: /a/ is one of the hardest boards to get major GETs on.
>>133920501
It ebbs and flows.
It saddens me to think that /vg/ will soon pass /a/ making /a/ the fourth largest board on 4chan for the first time in its history.
>>133920674
The only thing that disappoints me about that is the influx of normies. Other than that I don't give a fuck if we're number 1 or number 10.
>>133919938
baka desu senpai
>>133920342
I argue that the worst thing that plagues /a/ right now is the stupid amount of reposts(threads/replies).
Nothing new is being produced because everyone keeps reusing the same images(specifically for threadstarters) along with the same text. Newfags see this and monkey see monkey do. Seriously, it happens every fucking day. A good thread is made, then someone else copies it image for image and word for word and reposts it to death. Then newfags see this and try to do the same only with worst, dummer shit.
Every time there's OC that's not putting le meme text on top of an image, people complain and tells the poster to go back to reddit. That's neo-/a/ for you.
Back to the reposts. It is fucking painful. As someone who lurks for the majority of his browsing sessions, I hate seeing the same shit over and over again because people think there's value in someone dedicating his worthless time to reposting the exact same thing every single day.
>>133920693
>normies
We've already lost normals and about to lose normalfags. There's no reason to make it worse.
>>133920674
Good, the smaller and the less normalfag immigrants the better. Let us be last on the site, as long as there's enough posters for threads to move at decent speeds.
>>133920700
You open every general thread and compare them. They're all about the same. First for X, X is best, Why did X, Which X would you Y, X > Y > Z, and they're all just bumps to keep the thread off page 10. Is there no cognition in these people's heads?
>>133920643
Yeah, it was 133333334.
I'm not that mad about it I guess since I really only go off of a general sense of timing, which in that case, off by one is pretty good.
I got a pretty good GET back in February or March. It was more like a string a GETS in one thread, so the last one was pretty hyped up.
>>133920737
It's an awful spiral. You go there originally because you like X game, and you like talking to people who talk about X game.
You play X game possibly every day, or every other day. You go to the threads even when you're not playing because people talk about the game.
Then you go there out of habit. You have it open while you're browse other boards normally, and go back to it to post every now and then. And it just stays that way till you can break the cycle.
>>133920734
>>133920693
But it's not that we're getting smaller, it's that the other boards are getting bigger. Actually, I think we technically are getting smaller, but that's not the problem.
>>133920169
I gotta agree that 2015 has been absolutely awful year for /a/. I've always been more or less tolerant, but I really feel like the quality of the board dropped drastically after the comfy Christmas threads in 2014.
>>133920802
What do you expect?
/b/ has always been way up there. Videogames are more popular than anime. Hell, many people who watch anime play videogames. It's not surprising.
>>133920787

>>133920827

>>133920766
Trust me, anon: I know the dreaded feeling of being off by 1. It was the main reason why I made Cirno being off by 1 a thing.
As I said with my 133333333 though, you should NEVER give up. The next time a big GET comes around, don't be discouraged: prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
>>133920826
It's not surprising, but I don't think it's good to be a well-known board on a site increasingly full of newfags who don't come here for anime. It just contaminates us more and more.
>>133920787
Someone really needs to write a pasta. In the same way that Naruto pasta probably made some Narutofags reconsider their positions, there's a bunch of people who would just ditch the threads if someone told them to.

>blox
General threads were a natural evolution, regardless of their faults. The site became more popular. It is more convenient to find a single, main thread for a series than to find 10 separate threads all with a similar number of posts and quickly abandoned after whatever singular topic runs out of steam.
Don't jump on me about how they may have made things worse because I'm not arguing one way or the other.
>>133921103
You could say anything you want then use a blox related to the post.
Postblox
metablox
getblox
It's really pointless. Unless you ban the words blox or something. On a board as fast as /a/ or /v/ people would probably just type random shit at the bottom of their post.

I think the issue is that having a thread for a series that won't die even when the topic does isn't what should happen. If there's nothing to talk about, let it die.
How many of you started posting in the same threads way more often after noko became the standard and they added the thread watcher?
>>133921205
I never liked the thread watcher.
>>133921153
Huh, I don't think I was even around for that GET.
I never looked it up either.
>>133920933
I wouldn't mind reposts sometimes if it's being used in a unique way but the way things are right now my paranoia leads me to believe there is some kind of organized shitposting movement where people go to the archive and steal posts there to repost in acive threads.
Or even worst, neo-/a/ is made up of people who can't think for themselves and truly believe what they're doing, reposting things and even talking, using the same phrases word for word that others use, is cool and is what 4chan is about.
But, like others have said, it's not hard to get around and wouldn't really do much aside from encouraging contrarians to deliberately shitpost around it.
>>133921205
There isn't much of a choice. If there's a 200+ post metathread about an anime and you try to make another thread, you will literally be BANNED by the mods. The generals have a monopoly over anime discussion on this board.
>>133921205
If anything I started browsing way more threads simultaneously because of the thread watcher.
>>133921236
>where people go to the archive and steal posts there to repost
I wonder if Endless Eight threads have more unique posts than the average general thread now. It's probably about the same.
But truthfully, the amount of people who don't know about the archive is crazy. Like even before moe died. People really don't know about 4chan-X or neet.
>>133921205
And how many people stopped using sage after it became invisible?
>>133920000
>>133919999
>>133921143
Not that anon and not a general supporter, but to be fair it's pretty convenient and easy to just open the catalog and ctrl+f to find a thread of an ongoing anime I watch. I don't have the time to lurk /a/ 15 hours a day anymore on most days, like 8 years ago. So for ongoing anime I could understand it. Fuck everything about stuff like Jojo or madoka type generals though.
Also you have the autistic idiots every season playing oldfag making threads complaining about how One-Punch Man/Fate/Umaru/whatever other random shit gets spammed that season has 7 or 10 threads up at the same time and call it absolute cancer. I mean you can shit on their fanbases all you want. They're not much different than us 7-9 years ago. People just grow older.

>>133921241
Even for people who hate generals, it is difficult not to naturally be drawn towards them because of the higher number of posters potentially viewing that thread.
But I don't think that is the problem. There isn't anything wrong with posting in one thread over another of the same kind because it has more people viewing that thread. The problem is these generals become filled with endless reposts that spread from one general's current thread to the next one after that one dies.

They're generals and have some cancer but are mostly free of /soc/ bullshit that stuff like Madoka does, or at least they didn't earlier this year when I finally got tired of One Piece. >>133921467

>>133921457
It has to be true some of the time. And if it's true some of the time, it might catch on.
I lurk pretty every day and browse through the catalog so noticing these kinds of things is inevitable. The patterns of threads being posted and that will be posted. I can almost always predict what replies certain threads will get or if that thread will get replies at all.
So just by paying attention, you can really see it happen some times. A thread with the exact image and the exact text as one that happened a few days before. You can only assume that it's the same OP who is asspained his thread didn't become popular or it's someone who stole his post because it was popular.

>>133920142

>>133921675

>>133921600
Less than 15%. According to Moot back on /q/, visible sage was used by almost 30% of the userbase at any given time, which was too many because sage was never intended to be a form of "downvoting" just a way to post without bumping a thread because you thought it didn't deserve to be bumped to page 1. So he deactivated visible sage and made it so that having Sage in your name as a substitute would just fail your post, so that people would use Sage more judiciously, like sprinkling it on chicken.

The time where the threads only got around 300 replies were great.
>>133920355
>K on fan will be around for many years to come
Ah.
>tfw this is actually a general thread in disguise
>>133921717
The question wasn't how many used it, it was how many knew about it, which is definitely more than half, no matter how cancerous you think /a/ is now.
>>133921742
>mfw it becomes a blue ribbons thread somehow
>>133921717
Theres no point in using it now, really.
>>133921730
And /a/ knew when to necrobump threads for the sake of good content, deleting their old posts and everything. Threads were unusually up for weeks.
>>133921727
Sakurafish is a fight you just have to give up at this point. It's probably over half the age of some anons, and I doubt it's newfags replying most of the time.
We seem to be having a lot of meta-nostalgia threads popping up,on /v/ too.
Is it because of the holiday season?
Will we be doing our r/a/dio jams together and our annual circlejerk?
>>133921700
>SnK manga threads
Do people still post tumblr fanart and fanfic there or is it a little better now?
>>133919189
Still don't know what senpai means.
>>133921791
They're on the verge of self-imploding. There's not even tumblr-tier OC, it's just shitposters calling out shitposters, samefagging and X-fag wars instead of wars over the actual characters. It's unbelievably insane and autistic.
>>133921779
I like Sakurafish but I don't like that one fish-avatarfagging guy who does the hiro shtick.
It's also filled with mostly reposts from previous threads.
Why don't they make any new content or have some kind of real discussion?
>>133921771
>see a shitty rec thread
>see someone reply with boku no pico
>they also bump the thread
It's aggravating. There are several occasions when sage is still relevant.
>>133921824
>SnK accomplished in a few years what Oregairu did in under a season
>>133921779
That month of Sakurafish drawfag was one of the more memorable times I've had on /a/.
It is fucking depressing. I've been gone for a long time and the first thing I see is a rec thread, not even a subtle one.
People just can't sage report and hide anymore. Everyone has to bloody reply.
Bring back visible sage and the text boards.
Hiroyuki, please kill 4chan. What it needs is to lose popularity.
>>133921852
I liked when it was visible. Gave off a more aggressive atmosphere and told people their thread wasn't welcome.
>>133921824
Amazing, I didn't think it was possible for those threads to get any worse.
>>133921799short for "family"
It took me weeks to realize as well.
>>133921846
>some kind of real discussion
>in Sakurafish threads
What do you even want them to talk about?
>>133921912I had to google it and look it up on fucking urban dictionary a while back.
>>133921912
Same. I thought it was some bizarre Last Exile meme for like a day, too.
>>133921742
Fuck off.
>>133921857
Or Saekano for that matter. Harems have a natural upstart towards that kind of shitposting.
>>133921788
It most certainly is because of the holiday season. You're going to see more and more nostalgia threads pop up during Thanksgiving and into Christmas.
>>133921946
>>>/vp/
I started browsing in 2010 and for around two years all I did was lurk.
Around this time lurk more was a thing and people didn't spoonfeed(and if they did it would be in an elaborate way) so I was often afraid of posting something that would piss off everyone. I didn't use emoticons and never asked for sauce.
There was a sense of culture and board unity.
Nowadays, when new people come here they start posting right away and never lurk because 4chan has become such a relaxed environment now that there's no reason to. There will always be a less-new-newfag to spoonfeed someone. There will always be less-new-newfags pretending to be oldfags and telling the people who complain about newfags that they're trying too hard to fit in.
22222 soon
>>133920394
Is there any versions of those of 2012?
>>133921980
What?
>>133921957
only 200 posts away before quints, the pressure is on kog!!
Do you ever crossboard and shitpost with anime just for the sake of it?
>>133921983
You shouldn't even need to lurk much to learn not to post emoticons. It should take all of five minutes to notice that they aren't used here. Is the idea of not using textspeak on the internet actually foreign to people these days?
>>133921936
Senpai Fan Fan a shit! A SHIT!
I actually tried replying with her to senpai posters for a while but most probably didn't even get the reference.
>>133921985
No. Like I said, I stopped making those types of things near the end of 2011 as that was when /a/ reached its lowest point ever. /a/ has just barely started to recover in mid-2014, but it has a LONG way to go. In fact, /a/ may never return to the way it once was.
>>133922014
I have never genuinely left this board.
>>133922021
There used to be a time when ;_; was the only accepted emoticon. Now, ;_; is considered reddit-tier and :^) is completely acceptable.
>>133921983
>Around this time lurk more was a thing and people didn't spoonfeed(and if they did it would be in an elaborate way) so I was often afraid of posting something that would piss off everyone. I didn't use emoticons and never asked for sauce.
>There was a sense of culture and board unity.
I can relate to this. /a/ should be more offensive again.
>>133922014
I only have anime images for the most part, so it's what I use on other boards.
I don't shitpost on other boards though, when I go, it's usually because for a discussion on whatever that boards topic is.
I guess a lot of people use anime to shitpost on /g/ though. Browsing /g/ is actually what made me hate /v/ so much.
>>133921914
No idea but those threads don't even get to 100 replies these days
It's kind of sad
But it's probably because people go into that thread and then see the same shit posted every single time so they brush it off.
But honestly, even if Sakurafish is a legacy thing, it would be for the best if it were stopped. Newfags come and see it then think that they can become cool by reposting the same thing over and over again everyday.
>>133922046
>:^) is completely acceptable
Not on my watch. I can't take that shit.
>>133921983
I think the problem is that right now no one comes here to lurk. They come to 4chan to meme and argue about pointless shit, because there's no real OC or interesting discussions in almost any thread, so you don't get anything out of reading them if you don't post.
>>133922046
>:^) is completely acceptable
I still report it on sight and sometimes it works.
>>133922046
I generally find that ;_; is still acceptable when spoilered. Also, I rarely see :^) used outside of obvious bait.
>>133922052
>/a/ should be more offensive again.
Why do you think generals were formed?
>>133922055
/g/ hasn't been browseable in years. I just can't justify it. Sometime in 2012, I was just staring at the endless battlestation and desktop threads and thought, this must be what it is like to be dead inside.
>>133922046
This is not true at all.
This may be what you want to believe, but it isn't true in the slightest.
>>133922029
My bad, I didn't read the earlier posts.
>>133922085
And sometimes the mods warn you apparently. But that wouldn't stop me.
>>133921983
"trying too hard to fit in" fags have never been taken seriously. Just ignore them, or better yet, explain why they're wrong. No one even bothers with this anymore.
>>133922046
I have never seen anyone call ;_; reddit-tier. But the mods really do need to do something about this ":^)" shit being used in place of an image. Being a stupid fuck posting from your phone isn't have an excuse.
>>133922046
Maybe in OPM threads. All those damn crossboarders. They're being reigned in alright at least, better than SAO season 1.
>>133922107
PP2 threads were pretty fun, even if it was shit.

>people don't even remember cockmongler, happy negro man, WT Snacks, longcat, etc., anymore
>>133922075
On another note, what kind of OC would you like to see on /a/?
I rarely make threads, maybe once or twice a month, but they're usually only loosely related to anime/manga. I always edit images and make fresh content for these threads. Since lurking from 2010, I had always been in love with seeing caps of legacy epic threads that happened in the past and aspire to reach that level with my occasional thread. I had some successful ones but also many failures.blue ribbons and fedora-kun for example
>>133921912
How?
It was obvious day 1
>>133922124
>posting from your phone
I keep forgetting this is a thing.
>>133922092
I'm not sure what you mean. Generals seem like a protective hub against /a/'s policy. I don't browse generals, but I've been to the Jojo and SnK generals a while ago. Nobody bothers going there, so there's a lot of /v/-tier shitposting that isn't called out. Generals should be wiped.
>>133922112
I still don't understand why mods warn people for reporting emoticons.
>>133922154
I always like stuff from different series edited together. It's fun seeing the connections people make. There were some Ideon-Bahamut ones last year that were pretty good, and occasionally WEG threads have good ones.
>>133921768
The color blue is the strongest!
Also, eye hope eye'm not off by 1.

I was never able to find the ken-sama vs fedora thread before the archive died, and now I'll never know. That scissors one bombed though.
