Fairy Tail can't unto tension, hype, or plot. Whenever an opportunity for an interesting story arises, there's a high chance that they'll squander it. When things like past character development get in the way, i.e. when they want a former bad guy to become a good guy, there's a 50/50 chance that they'll just give it a brief nod before throwing it out the window (see: Laxus, Flare). Most of the complaints against FT are perfectly valid.
However, the characters are lovable, and their antics are fun. It has loads and loads of best girls, and Natsu is a bro. I pretty much hold no expectations for the story, and just watch it for the characters.
I honestly don't understand the people who will follow things that they hate every week for years on end, on sheer momentum alone, or for fap material which doesn't actually require them to read/watch the entire chapter/episode.
