I still don't understand what everyone is complaining about. Change isn't inherently bad, the new cast is of even higher profile than the one in the games, and the anime so far has had much better acting than the games.

I interpret Gappy a little differently.
Gappy seems to me to be the Innocent jojo. Unlike Jonathon who is the 2pure hero of justice, Gappy is simply ignorant and unknowing. If he is overly violent, or does something wrong, it doesnt really register with him.
He is a bit childlike, and I think that pairs well with his amnesia.
Gappy is only at home when he is fighting. Its like he has a natural instinct for it, which gives a hint of what his former halves were like.
Otherwise Gappy is confused, ignorant, and simple.
Perhaps naming him after a dog was no mistake, because he kinda behaves like a dog. Living in the moment, going with the flow, and staring at the world with a child like innocence.

It doesn't work like this. Besides Hatano is much lower profile than Ono.
Saying that Sakurai is lower than Paku and Kamiya is straight up lying. The three of them are on a category of their own, and I'd say Sakurai is a bit higher than Kamiya with how many important roles he's had, Kamiya is getting bigger in recent anime, Sakurai has been bigger since earlier.
Anyways, those three are just as good, Kaji is a lower, but Hatano is much lower compared to Ono, not having done an important lead yet.
Both casts are great, don't get me wrong, I thought the ASB cast was perfect, but the thing is the new one is really good too. And there's no point in complaining, all you are doing is spoiling the fun in this adaptation for yourself.

Jonathan practically shit himself in every fight with DIO except the first two, and the boat fight. There were remarks on how he was full of fear, DIO taunted him saying he was afraid a couple of times. On the other hand Joseph ran away with his tail under his legs against Kars, and Straights. Gyro and Johnny are both protagonists, but Gyro only really takes the spotlight in the beginning, towards the end its clearly Johnny's tale, specially seeing as his stand quite literally evolves with him.
For me I like Johnny cause he's a pretty badass motherfucker but he's not some justice goody hero, he's just some poor bastard at the lowest point of his life who's willing to do anything for a shot at redemption. I think the fire eye moments really sell him and highlight some of the differences between him and Gyro. I still love Gyro and would have a hard time choosing a favorite between the two, but Gyro works well because he is the best Brojo for the best Jojo, but he couldn't be the Jojo himself IMO.
