I do not watch anime in the future.
I only watch shows that /a/ still talks about after they're done airing. That way I know for sure that they're either good or good meme material. Life's too short to waste time watching bad anime.

A lot of those are bad anime. Most of the good anime isn't discussed after it airs.
Marathonning is more fun. I do feel sad when I find something I really love and realize I missed out on all the discussions, but being able to do it all in one go is great.
Sometimes I compromise by starting everything halfway through the season when 6-7 episodes are out, that way I get to watch at least the first half all at once and can catch the tail end of discussions if I want to.

I'll drop after 1 episode if it feels like I'm not going to enjoy it. A lot of shows take time to pick up steam, but if I feel NOTHING about it that I enjoy then it's unlikely that it's going to redeem itself that much later on. Usually even the slow starting shows have at least some aspect that's interesting even at the start.

Every show I've ever dropped was after 2 episodes are left. I think the 3 episode rule is dumb.
I dropped Black Rock Shooter because it was just the OVA drawn out over a season so I didn't watch more than one episode. I dropped Fairy Tail because it was worse than Naruto in every way but the same genre. I dropped that High School Star Musical show because it was way gayer than expected. Besides those I've never dripped anything.
