It was fine, everyone's just being overly dramatic. Granted it's probably his worst work but even while the anime was airing it easily beat the other competitors.
And you have to admit you didn't see the space penises before it happened.

I don't mind Smoogy per se. She just took over the show while adding very little to it.And then she was just stuck into Benijiro's body after she had been forgotten for the second half of the story, probably just because it was a convenient way of bringing Smoogy back.Now I can't help but be pissed whenever I see her.

I still love Sidonia, which makes it all the more unfortunate that it turned out the way it did in the end, in my opinion. It had all kinds of hints of interesting places the story could go, but in the end, it barely resolved any of the plot threads it had spun throughout and just ended with the bad guy killed and a half-assed ending with a bunch of unnessecary curve-balls.
I'm still hoping that a third season of the anime might come up with a different ending.
