So why has every sub of FSN so far insist that Seigi no Mikata be translated as 'Hero of Justice'? It is an overly-literal and unnatural translation. Surely Superhero was a lot closer to the intended meaning?
>>
>>133793985
If taken literally it'll be more like ally of justice.
>>
Superhero never really gelled with me when I read the VN. I mean it kind of works meaning-wise, but I think it's one of those cultural things that doesn't really 100% work no matter what.

I'm fine with Hero of Justice, ultimately.
>>
>>133793985
Superhero is too specific since it implies super powers.
>>
>>133793985
Superhero makes you think of guys in spandex. It's a terrible choice.

Spandex you say?
>>
I personally think just "hero" would work, but I can see why people can be against that.

Superhero definitely won't work though. as >>133794181
>>133794196
said, Superhero defaults to Superman, or flash or whatever. A bunch of guys in spandex with super powers saving the day.
>>
>>133794338
Rather than hero of justice it should be either hero or defender of justice.
>>
Because weebs. Also some chuunishit about Archer insisting a difference between a superhero and what he is.
>>133794181
Wrong, Batman, Iron Man and Green Arrow are superheroes. Superheroes are just extraordinary, they don't have to have superpowers.
>>
>>133794388
Hero doesn't imply justice.

You can kill 10 to save 100 and still be a hero.
>>
>>133794418
Correct. But hero of justice is stupid. That's why I'm promoting defender of justice.
>>
正義の味方
Hero of Justice, Knight in Shining armour, Superhero, hero, on the side of justice.

Superhero carries connotations due to the American comic industry, it is about particular style of character.

When translating they probably wanted to keep as close to the meaning the original author intended, it is questionable that the author wanted the association of superhero rather than just plain hero, I imagine he would have just used the far more common superhero in katakana if he intended the meaning of superhero.
>>
Hero is completely wrong. He's an ally of justice.
Read Archer's rant in Extra on why he's an Ally of Justice and specifically NOT a hero.
>>
>>133793985
Seigi no Mikata doesn't mean you're a hero with super powers though.
>>
>>133795502
Neither does superhero. Emiya does have superpowers though.
>>
>>133795745
I think the point that most people are trying to get across is that just reading the word superhero makes them think of /co/ stuff like superman.
This is a clunky way of separating those things, not to mention that everyone's been used to this translation for a pretty long time.
>>
>>133794181
There's a shitload of superheroes who don't have superpowers.
>>
>>133795800
That makes sense. Hopefully there's a term to satisfy these people.
>>
>>133796182
Champion of justice.
>>
>>133793985
You're right the the translators are autistic and want to enforce their own aesthetics on what they're translating.
>>
>>133795340
>it is questionable that the author wanted the association of superhero
Did you even read the VN?

The "lol marvel" shit would be wrong, but that's still not all that superhero means.
>>
Seigi=Justice no=of Mikata=Ally
Therefore the correct translation is justice of ally.
>>
>>133797848
kill yourself
>>
What he wants is to uphold justice, even through ordinary means (magic isn't that weird in his universe), superhero kinda implies extraordinary feats or powers.
"I want to be a superhero" is kinda off since it sounds a bit sillier than the original which is just about justice.
>>133797395
this is basically the closest I've seen so far.
>>
https://www.google.com/search?q=正義の味方+少年漫画&source=lnms&tbm=isch

If this isn't what you think of when you hear the term then your translation is wrong.

Sorry, sophists, but it's Superhero.
>>
I get that there isn't a whole lot left to discuss about Fate or Type-Moon in general but you guys are literally arguing semantics here. Literally.
>>
>>133794439

I think you might finally understand the point of this route.

>>
>>133798092
Superhero is stupid in the right way. That's why it has to be translated like that. The whole theme of the route is lost in translation if you don't.
>>
>>133793985
How would you say "ally of justice"?

Do-gooder? Nah, that's usually said in a condescending way
Good Samaritan? Too broad, and a simple good samaritan doesn't go to the lengths Shirou does
Philanthropist? Again to broad, and most associate being a philanthropist with being someone that indirectly assists. Shirou is pretty hands on.
Vigilante? It's hands on, but doesn't necessarily imply the same meaning.

Ultimately, hero of justice gets used because hero implies you directly involve yourself with conflict resolution, and the justice part is pretty self explanatory
>>

I'd rather we posted Shirous.

Do you care what the majority thinks of what you do with your time? Why watch anime then? Why not be a productive member of society instead?

Perhaps it would sound silly because the whole thing is silly. A teenager or adult saying "I want to be an ally of justice" in real life would be as ridiculous as one saying they want to be a superhero. There's a reason Lelouch has a laugh at his Zero persona calling himself an "ally of justice" and the nips eating it up -he's aware of how childish and silly it is. It's something straight out of media aimed at children.

Trying to avoid 'superhero' because it sounds silly is ignoring the fact that this is all inherently silly. The whole thing being childish is a point to the character anyway.
>>
>>133793985
>Cheater protagonist
>"Charm" magic
>The only interesting characters are three psychopaths and the relationship between a dudebro conqueror and a classy pansy lad from England
Are you fucking shitting me? I can guess why they call this shit "mature"
>>
>>133797395
Champion of justice is the best translation.

>>133797976
This is as retarded as saying that since you call chihuahuas dogs, all dogs are chihuahuas. Just because the term is applied to superheroes doesn't mean that's its exclusive meaning.
>>
>>133798970
It's *literally* the term for japanese superheroes though.
>>
>>133799037
You don't know what you're talking about. Normal people can call themselves that too. It's not exclusive to superheroes.
>>
>>133799119
>You don't know what you're talking about.

>>
>>133799119
>Normal people can call themselves that too. It's not exclusive to superheroes.
And? Normal people call themselves superheroes too.

Normal english people don't run around calling themselves "heroes" or "champions" of justice. It's simply not a term in the english jargon.

If you're going to talk about what normal people call themselves, superhero is literally the only acceptable translation, because it's the only one that normal people understand as anything close to what the original term means and it's the only one in their lexicon.

正義の味方 is a very cringeworthy chuuni term anyway.
Might as well just translate it to Ally of Justice.
>>
>>133799249
Congratulations, you're in the process of learning japanese. Are you postfluent? No? Are you studying linguistics? No? Then you have no place arguing about the nuances of japanese words.
>>
>>133799306
>正義の味方 is a very cringeworthy chuuni term anyway.
That is quite literally the entire point.
>>
>>133799345
Exactly. There is no point in trying to pretty it up. Just translate it to something equally as cringy.
>>
>>133799310
What is your source that the term means refers just to superheroes?

Superhero is awful because anyone reading it will think that Shirou wants to become Superman. Champion of Justice is a much better term to use.
>>
>>133799393
So superhero.
>>
>>133799406
>What is your source that the term means refers just to superheroes?
That's not what I said. I said that it was the term for superheroes, not that it was /only/ a term for supeheros. Propositional logic 101: Specific case does not make a general case.

>Superhero is awful because anyone reading it will think that Shirou wants to become Superman.

Have you looked at archer? He's literally a future person in magic spandex that can make massive leaps and generate weapons out of thin air.
>>
>>133799306
It is when taken seriously, which TM fans do. Which is why it's called chuunishit.
>>
>>133799475

Seigi no mikata reminds me of tokusatsu series like Kamen Rider, so I think superhero is okay since it reminds you of dumb shit like that.
>>
>>133799464
Yes, but Shirou's goal in life wasn't to put on a cape and run around fighting crime. Anyone reading the term superhero would assume that this was his goal.
>>
>>133799800

No, he wanted to save lives.
>He didn't want to put on a mask and call himself The Swordsman or something like that.
First of all, he literally ended up doing exactly that and during the VN he noted a few times that archer looked like his ideal of a seigi no mikata.

Second, superheroes literally only do that to protect things that are precious to them from supervillains. If things are different that shit doesn't happen. See Smalltown etc.

You just seem mad because you missed the themes of the VN.
