Pretty much this. The majority of the threads and fanbase are absolutely awful and you'd be better off just watching the anime without ever going to the threads, but it is genuinely my favorite this year (though Pleiades is a close 2nd and I haven't caught up on Osomatsu-san or Utawarerumono2 yet, so who knows).

I think this is true, although I think Trigun was far more creative insofar as character designs and worldbuilding goes. It might just be the anime effect kneecapping the storytelling, as often happens.

The designs in Trigun do trump Outlaw Star, Vash is just too iconic a character.
Gene felt more realistic than Vash though.
It felt like Vash had no real opposition the entire time, save for Legato's mind games and Knives. In contrast, Gene struggles to deal with the enemies he has made and almost dies time and time again.

Thanks, i have talked to him about it since. He has gotten better since, cleaned up his act and actually scored pretty well on recent tests (parents called to tell me about it). Apparently he was doing it because a friend and annoyed him at the time and he was doing it as revenge (his friend loved yotsuba@! and showed it off at school). He told me he realised how dumb it was and had gotten over it, thankfully. I like him and hes not a bad person, he just gets really stupid when hes angry.

I'm really easy to please and generally if I pick up a show I watch it to completion. Only reason I drop something would be if I forget to download a few episode and end up weeks behind. I think everyone needs to be a bit more laid back when it comes to watching stuff airing and instead enjoy the ride.
