As a huge Digi-fag who has watched the series' twice over, all the movies and has a collection of games, I find this first chapter of six to be very decent.
I think the stuff with Taichi is pretty annoying but I also sort of understand where he's coming from. I believe this is all leading up to something with the next chapter though as a character development.

I just finished watching all four episodes of the new digimon series.
I'm overall satisfied with the animations and the storytelling in general. It's been so long i'm taken aback seeing how much everyone's grown. The fact that they're still carrying their digivices on them at all times goes to show just how strong the bound between them and their digimon is and it was really heart-moving to see Taichi grabbing his digivice first thing in the morning.
I also got reminded of my first waifu. Sora. She's the way i remembered her being, she's as always the middleman making sure Taichi and Yamato don't hit one another too hard. I just love her.

I'm not sure but I think maybe Crunchyroll was the ones who separated the episodes? There's no way it would have aired like that in theatres. Maybe they wanted it to feel like an anime series, or they're preparing for the future when they can air it on a channel or something. I'm just spitballing.
We got new promo pics of their current designs a long time ago so it shouldn't have been a surprise if you were following news of it.

That's the thing: there's 6 releases, each split into 4 episodes.
It's like a 24 season handed out in portions perfect for binge-watching.
Pretty genius way to keep the hype train going when you think about it...
Animation wise it had some QUALITY, more than i'd expect from a movie, but the action scenes were pretty good.
The new evolution animations aren't as cool as they were, which i'm surprised by.
The animation for prefect and above are absent which i'm not happy about.
Story wise, i sure hope they explain what's going on with Taichi, his insecurity, not knowing what's the best course of action, hesitation trough maturity I expect him to return to his former self by the end of it, and i suspect that Yamato will be the one to get him there.
MimixKoshiro is so adorable.
Jo has a girlfriend, no one believes him, and neither do I .
Not much to say about the meganekko with a neko, she's probably gonna be important to defeat Alphamon.

All in all i had a big dumb smile on my face for most of the movie, and i got used to Hikari's new voice quickly.

TaichiXYamato is amazingly the "pairing" that has by far the most pandering in all of the Digimon seasons.
The amount of time devoted to their relationship is unbelievable.
Taichi also has some meaningful interactions with Koushiro and Sora but it's not at the same level.
