In all honesty, it's trash. The entire series is basically a senseless powerlevels competition, Kishimoto doesn't seem to know what he's doing with the characters, and the entire endgame is just one asspull villain after another.

It's starts out strong and gradually leads to a complete disappointment because of sloppy writing. BTW don't watch the anime it has terrible animations and lots of filler.
I'd recommend Hunter x Hunter instead.

Don't watch the main series, sure. But the Rock Lee spinoff is worth every episode.
Skip filler and you get a pretty good battle shounen.
People say writing is bad, but it's standard battle shounen so it shouldn't matter at all if you truly like shounen anime

It's alright up till the time skip. Not great but not a bad way to kill some time. The early manga art and a lot of the scans are shit though. If you go with the anime make sure you look up which episodes are filler and skip them.
Do not read or watch past the time skip. It's a very long train wreck.
