I rewatched the OVAs recently and, damn, I'd forgotten how much I loved them, it also brought back some good memories about the manga.
I'm actually kind of glad the TV series was never made: By my calculations it would have been about as long as the most recent HxH, but there's no way it would a series so action-heavy would have had the budget to have good animation consistently for so long back in 2003 unless if were split into various seasons (FMA looked pretty good but that's BONES we're talking about and it only lasted 50 episodes), that is, if they animated the whole thing. Was 3x3 even popular enough to warrant a high-budget and/or multiple seasons?
Not to mention all the gore and how it would have been censored to hell.

I legit just don't enjoy reading. The thing with written media is that to create a sense of space and setting arduous and often over-detailed descriptions of places, character's clothes, appearance, etc, are used, and I honestly just find that unappealing. Similarly to when I'm speaking to someone, I like things cutting straight to the point, with no fluff, no masturbatory dwelling on details, the like most authors seem to engage in. It seems that most people find that kind of thing immersive and attractive, I don't.. I'm very much a visual kind of guy.
I try, I do, but the last book I remember enjoying was Yukikaze, and, if you've read the book, you'll know that the narrative is quite dry and straightforward, no fancy allegories, no purple-prose, nothing of the like. I know its traits turned a lot of people off it, but that's what made it attractive to me.

So many times I see shows and movies, not just anime, being criticized by other people for static or "under-developed" characters, and I honestly just don't get it.
For me, in my list of priorities for a show, characters probably rank in 3rd place, with plot and atmosphere being the priorities, i don't need "relateable" characters, I'd rather have the first 2.
Note that I'm not saying I'm OK with "bad" characters, like an annoying MC or even a cuntish secondary character that's featured frequently (looking at you, Tatiana), just that characters don't always have to be the focus.
If i go more than 2 weeks with out watching an episode of Cowboy Bebop i'll quickly forget whats good about it, and its not as if I don't like the show, but i can't understand why its so highly praised and yet at the same time, i can't see anything overtly wrong with it either.
I think that Evangelion isn't all that good. I tried to watch it and got to the end. I felt it was a bit boring.
I could never get into Haruhi, no matter what anybody says. I watched it back years ago and only seen a few early episodes. Its not bad, I just didn't want to watch it. I tried rewatching it again but always gave up. Maybe one day I'll try and watch it again.
