What hate? The worst thing you could say about Pleiades is that most people ignored the show because of the premise and the studio. And even that's not really true, since by the time the show ended, it had already developed a reputation as a sleeper hit on /a/ and a lot of people caught up with it and decided to watch it because of /a/ threads. I thought it was garbage. Well animated, very pretty garbage, but garbage. The moment they decided they could just break all the rules they'd established in previous episodes because 'muh anything goes when you have a goal or whatever' excuse really sealed the deal.
Though really what made me hate it is how none of the main characters show the slightest bit of curiosity or understanding of their world. Yeah yeah, they're 13 year olds or whatever, but you think ONE of them would have shown a bit of interest or asked a question or something when confronted with something like a bloody TIME MACHINE instead of just being like 'oh well, we have to plan for the cultural festival now!'

Honestly this. You have to understand that for the young, any show that makes them tear up is the first show that makes them tear up. It's "grounbdbreaking," "revolutionary" and etc. because they've never seen the millions of things that did it better, or that it was simply a derivative of. They don't have the context to recognize good melodrama from bad melodrama, so they rate highly whatever constitutes their introduction to melodrama.
Shows aimed at a younger audience, especially those made to play to emotions, will always end up with popular ratings higher than their quality deserves, because that audience doesn't have the context to say "X 5 years ago did it better" or "that concept was put to much better use in Y"

I usually try to watch about at least one new series a week.
Last week I looked at my archive and realized i had finished everything that I had downloaded. and while i was waiting for a new series to finish downloading i decided to rewatch the first episode of Pleiades.
Long story short, i ended up watching the first 7 episodes that day. and the rest the next.
I love the show too much. Its neo sincerity mahou shojou in a day of edgy fighting mahou shojou, its very comforting. and the space themes are beautiful renditions of space as more than just a backdrop.

I think my favorite part of Pleiades that harkons back to other magical girl shows is how it integrates product placement seamlessly into the show.

but it has the most perfect balance of comfy/serious and absurd/science of any magical girl anime I've seen. Drama is ever present but conflict never drags on and it never feels angsty at all. Really one of the most carefully made series I've seen.
However, it doesn't have a lot of action in the beginning, and it doesn't try to be as openly dark as yuuki yuuna or madoka, nor as kid friendly as precure, maybe that's why it wasn't very popular.

I'm still glad I bought it though, since it's probably the best we're going to get. The character sections are perfectly good. Concept Hikaru a cute.
It also has all the magic circles, and a translation of the weird alphabet they used.

That said, the moment they crossed space at an incredible speed was a piece of art in terms of visual direction and the plot is interesting.

I love this anime. Actually, there was an OVA at 2011. When I watched the OVA, it is too boring for me. But the TV series is pretty good!
The character design is pretty moe, and the scenes of university and haven are very beautiful. I know the atmosphere of stories is a little of boring, but every story is very po-warm.
The core of Gainax's anime is never changed. The story of love, no matter friends, families or lovers, and the blessing for human beings. Gainax is my best favorite anime company. I was very moved and excited when finished Pleiades because I realized Gainax is never dead even Anno's and Imaishi's group have left Gainax.
