/a/ I finally finished Hoshi no Samidare, under your recommendation and I was hoping to have a discussion about it.

I'm legitimately feel a void in my life after reading it because I liked it so much.

Anime when anime never
Also is Spirit Circle just as good ?

[Spoiler]Also, Hanako a best

It'll never fucking happen just let it go

I feel like people have been steadily forgetting the series with time unfortunately. I remember having been really invested in it. I really appreciated the themes of coming of age because I read them at a time where I was transitioning from college to university.

i was mostly skeptical with regards to these two getting together but then this mini chapter sold me like fucking wildfire
>>
Spirit circle's pretty good, once the flashbacks start.
>>
>>133692635
my favorite manga of all time thus far. Did you like the epilogue? because honestly i did not really give a fuck about that shit.
>>
>>133692635

Read spirit circle and sengoku youko now.
>>
>>133692635
>>133692848
Pretty much this.

Spirit Circle's really great as well, check that out for sure.
I haven't read Sengoku Youk, but other anons will talk about it.
>>
Don't make an anime out of it.
The chances of it being artistically butchered are too high if the production value isn't grade A

kickstarter to give Mizukami Satoshi the money he'd make by selling it as an anime so he can focus more on his manga without entering mainstream mode
>>
>>133693320
The epilogue, as in after the 10 year time skip ? or the extra chapter? If you're referring to the former then yeah I did like it because it just tied up the whole story and clarified what the point of the manga was (becoming an adult) nicely. Altough i do agree it wasn't all that interesting, especially considering that basically every couple got together pretty conveniently.

I mean the manga was really focused all around so it's not really a legitimate criticism but it felt a little too easy.

And i'm currently reading the extra chapter as I type this. and it's pretty fun
>>
>>133692635
Go read sengoku youku.
It's pretty entertaining as well, bit slow but fucking amazing when shits going down.
I didn't read spirit circle yet, waiting for more chapters.
>>
>>133693445
I kind of agree, the great thing about Mizukami is that he creates stories that are very well structured with a start middle and end. It's blindingly obvious that he's not interested in the never ending format of serialization and that's why his works are so poignant, there is never a chapter that doesn't feel necessary.

And the popularity an anime would bring to him might pressure him to go out of that and draw out his tightly written stories. Which would be a massive shame
>>
>>133693637
Yeah I'll definitely do so, I'm just sad that neither are published in my country (Samidare is) and would really love to own them. Mizukami deserves all the recognition he can get abroad.

>>
>>133692635
I do honestly hope that some of his newer manga get greenlit for anime, he deserves a lot more recognition. With that said it seems like the guy sells well on his own, because he's working on two long running series.
>>
>>133693978

>>
>>133693637
Do you have any particular recommendations for good English translations of Sengoku? I tried reading it a little while back, but the translations seemed to be done by a group whose first language wasn't English, as the grammar was pretty rough.

It's not a complete deal-breaker, but it does detract from my reading pleasure, a bit.
>>
>>133695752
Actually i don't remember.
It's a while since i read this series. Normaly i just read what was on batoto.
i have a vague memory of the translation getting better after the first dozen or so chapters, not sure if it was sengoku youku or another series though

Elementary my dear anon.

Lots of other people came to like the series on their own after reading it and they in turn recommend it to more people leading to more threads where anons regret not having picked it up as it ran and thereby ceaselessly passing on the same memes to others.

It's basic memetics anon.
>>
I think Spirit Circle is the best Mizukami work, but Biscuit Hammer will always be my favorite.

It really helped pick me up when I was going through a rough time -- and I think a lot of people who like the series shared that feeling. It's not a masterpiece, but it was a good friend.
>>
This is my favorite manga. I've read other things that have objectively better art and storytelling, but something about it feels really endearing.
>>
>>133703174
I think of it as a manga equivalent to comfort food. It isn't experimental and doesn't push boundaries, it isn't going to be heaped with awards, but it is one of those things you can keep coming back to and reliably enjoying.
>>
>>133692635
I liked it. The ending seemed to be a tad too perfect though.
>>
>>133697979
Fuck off with the baits, m8.

This is one of my favorite authors and I must propagate it. No anime will do the series justice, unfortunately,

Op,
I vote for sengoku youko. Even with a protagonist change, the manga has over all a shit to of substance. Spirit circle is like a collection of one shots that is loosely tied together rather than a coming of age, and that's why I likr sengoku youko better.
>>

Wow, a Mizukami thread with minimal shitposting. HnS definitely has flaws, but it'll always be one of my favorites. You can really see how he develops as a mangaka over his works. Spirit circle is his most ambitious and cleanly written series so far. I could see it getting an anime, a little too late for HnS.
>>
>>133713671
>a little too late for HnS.
not really. If it gets a new edition, maybe it will have an anime.

I really like his characters. His powers and abilities are a little weak excepting Airspace Control Babylon but otherwise his forte is definitely the way his characters come together naturally.

Wish he'd drop the shounen pretenses altogether and made a purely SoL series, but that's just me.

I agree that Spirit Circle has the potential to get an anime. If it works anything like it did for Nihei with the Sidonia anime, however, anime producers might greenlight Mizukami's past works if a Spirit Circle anime sells well enough.

On an unrelated note, I need more Anima reactions. She's just such a funny character to me.
>>
>>133715460
Honestly, I like how he adds SoL elements into his shonen series. Helps make the actual plots feel more relateable. Most Shonen tend to focus strictly on the fights rather than the characters, so it's a nice breath of fresh air to see some that are more character driven.
>>
>>133715460
I'm more of a fan of the weird elements and settings he puts into his manga.

Samidare is probably the most SoL of his works but that's probably why it's my least favorite of it (still wouldn't disagree it's a masterpiece for no other reason than being a complete Mizukami fanboy).
>>
I'm still trying to think why Yayoi fell in love with Hyou although the manga explained it well.

Of course the other works are worth reading, just see the one shot in this trhead for example.
>>
Am I missing something with this? I tried reading it and got around 10 chapters in before quitting. Everything just felt scatterbrained and awkward.

Everything else he makes is average.

There's a reason his other ones are only oneshots or haven't been translated fully.

It's shit, people only like it because they self insert as the loser MC
It's just a bad long ass training arc

>they self insert as the loser MC

I actually self-insert as the lizard.

I bought vol. 1-2 back when it was released, and finally got 3-10 today at a Barnes and Noble. I'm excited to reread this physically, even if Seven Seas kinda sucks I'm glad they stuck it out and published all of it. They even said their profits were lower than projected because of its availability on Crunchy, but finished publishing it anyway. I hope more people buy it so we can get Sengoku Youko and Spirit Circle in print.

I'd say it's good that Spirit Circle is better than Biscuit Hammer. It shows that he's improving as a creator.

That's just his quirky style. It steadily gets better and then the ride turns into a rollercoaster after the halfway point.

Wait, is that Sensei?

Maybe back in the day when 4 cour flagships were the norm it could've worked.

Reminder that master is animus reincarnated

Three split cours. The story is structured nicely enough to be split into three parts. 1st ends at beast knights meet up, 2nd ends at Tarou being avenged and the last part deals with Maimektarion and Animus.

>crunchyroll is doing Spirit Circle

Fiends.

Agreed. Still good, but not great. Ending actually might be the most dumbass ending I've ever read.
>>
When people are talking about how they thought the ending was weak, are they talking about the final climax/battle or are they talking about the epilogue? I thought both were very fitting. A little rushed, but basically accomplished everything he wanted to do with the characters and story.
>>

I could understand someone not liking the epilogue, because best girl lost, princess gets healed, and a ton of random pairings that rely on content we don't see.

But that final battle followed by the REAL final battle followed by the epilogue battle between Lizard and Crow, that was fucking spectacular. The feint calling by crow that calls back to the first chapters and the farewell between the knights and the animals. It didn't leave anything out.

For some reason, the part where Mu speaks always hits me really hard.
>>
For me it felt contrived. It seemed like it wanted to be clever and different at the end (which I think it did fine with for most of the manga), but it ended up lame and forced. To me, their actions just made 0 sense.

>It seemed like it wanted to be clever and different at the end
Hmm, I can't say I got the same feeling. Instead it felt like he was just trying to tie up each and every last loose end. Sort of like he was dying, and wanted to pack everything in his mind into what was left so nothing would be taken to the grave.

You guys give this guy too much praise.

Literally, only Spirit Circle could begin to be considered a great work.
