It's shit
>>

They are literally all the same, everything has already been done.
>>
it's cute and fun
>>
I liked Fruits Basket. Girls need harems too.
>>
it's ok
>>
Makes the area between my legs feel funny, onii-chan.
>>
Haru was shit, Yamaken was better in every way
>>
It's mostly shit, because shoujo manga is more repetitive than your average shounen, but there are a few good ones. Skip Beat, for example, or Kuragehime.
>>
>>133672391
It depends. Lovely Complex, Tonari no Kaibutsu, Haru x Kiyo, Ore Monogatari, Takane to Hana, and Kare Kano are all pretty nice.

Sometimes I love Shoujo, but I gotta be in the right mood. A few years ago I downloaded and watched all of Kimi ni Todoke all in one sitting. It was great (if not extremely frustrating because of MISUNDERSTANDINGS). Earlier this year I was watching Akagame no Shirayukihime and eventually stopped downloading new episodes due to disinterested. I plan on catching up so I can watch the second core in Winter because I really did like it, I just wasn't in the mood to watch Shoujo at the time. Its not really something you can mindlessly watch every week, because plots with romance as the main focal point typically get kind of dry after a while (at least for me)
>>
>>133672391
i prefer shoujo romance manga
>>
Too similar to 3DPD for my liking.
>>
>>133672391
It's pretty much my guilty pleasure genre. Either shoujo or josei does it for me. Natsuyuki Rendezvous was probably the most recent one I watched. Pretty interesting premise right off the bat, but it throws it all away just a bit before halfway through. Still a decent watch though.
>>
>>133672391
Josei > Shoujo
>>
>>133673995
That show was such fucking trash, holy shit.
>>
The last decent shoujo adaptation was KnT. FUCK that show made me so mad. I wish Kurumi won.

>>133673995
This show was pretty okay, but the ending was kind of anticlimactic, really. Ghost NTR just didn't work out, I feel.

As with every single piece of media, there are a lot of good ones buried beneath thousands of shit.

Still, it's my guilty pleasure reads. Shit makes my heart flutter like a fucking schoolgirl. Guess it's doing it's job I guess.

I'm a newbie shoujo translator, so I'd say there more misses than there are hits in the Shoujo department. Some are good, but some makes me feel like I have to force myself to read them to get better at reading comprehension. The only current good ones that I enjoy are Kengai Princess and Kimi to yuriika.

I only recently got into romance themed stuff after a friend suggested toradora, I couldn't stop myself after that, turns out I like romance.

are there any "classics" I should be aware of?

I've only watched kimi ni todoke, lovely complex and toradora.
>>
>>133672391
I love it, in theory. The generic shoujo formula is exactly what I want out of anime romance, in theory.

Problem is that I hate on the execution in pretty much every generic shoujo romance. The romance ends up feeling really contrived where I don't understand why the main pair likes each other and why this or that problem happens. Basically I want to standard plot, but I'm frustrated at the writing.
>>
>>133673293
I feel like the ending of kimi ni todoke makes up for all of season two's "misunderstandings".

Fruits Basket.
>>
The side couples are always better than the main couple.
>>
>>133672391
After having seen a couple of them and even enjoyed some of them, I realized that I'm simply not the target audience. Some scenes/aspects of shoujos just make me feel uncomfortable.
>>
Possibly the slowest genre to make any progress in its plot. (because there is usually not much of it)

It is shit when it tries to rehash the same shoujo tropes just for the sake of them being shoujo tropes.

Usually represents relationships in a more satisfying way than romance from the shounen perspective.

Best enjoyed by self-inserting into the shoujo.
makes me go doki-doki

tl;dr shoujo is shit.

Isn't Kuragehime Josei though?

And always the rival characters are objectively better.
>>
This year was interesting for shoujo/josei, with Oremono, Yona and Akagami. There were some bad stuff and other I didn't even notice though.
>>
It's a shit infinitely better than haremshit and moeshit
>>
>>133672391
This was the only romance manga i read since it wasn't cringe worthy shit.
>>

If there is only one thing that can be done, then his statements are true.

TnK has a lot of filler episodes. better to read the manga version.
>>
>>133675900

Tonari no Kaibutsu had the best OP of the season.
>>
I haven't watched much at all, but I like it despite how infuriating it is regarding to communication.
>>

FRESH ASS FOR YOU
>>
I can't get enough of it, though I prefer josei though. The manga and anime of chihayafuru and nodame cantabile rank among my favorites.

As far as shoujo titles, one of my favorites was kaichou wa maid sama. Self inserting gets me all hot and bothered.
>>
Is Cross Games a shounen? I think it was pretty good romance story.

Sports Shoujo is infallible. Think about it.
>>
Why it's very rare to have romance with male POV/ male main? Haremshits need not apply
>>
>>133672391
I hate TnK, I only cared about the secondary characters.

Main guy is an autistic brute and the main girl was angry most of the time.

But you should probably read it.
As for me I watched the anime first and as much as I liked Anno directing it, the series turned to shit near the end.

Not suggesting anime but you should read Chikan Otoko and Umibe no Onnanoko.
>>
I don't watch a lot, but I hate it when the romance starts with the boy raping/sexually assaulting the girl, which then leads to her falling for him.
I prefer when both the male and female are likeable characters, I really don't like when the male is an asshole.

My favourite is Kimi ni Todoke, but I'm also really enjoying Kare Kano, which I'm currently working on. Anyone know at what episode it turns to shit? I'm watching it slowly to really enjoy it, but I was planning to marathon the last part to get over it, because I'd probably never finish it if it really turns bad and I have to start watching every day.

Also you can check Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. I watched quite a while back but I enjoyed it at the time.
My last recommendation will be Horimiya or Hori-san to Miyamura-kun.

For some reasson they tend to adapt the blandest and more generic shoujos.
Would love to see a good anime adaptation of Basara or 7 Seeds.
