What matters most to me is that the manga's ending makes almost all of the story development throughout the series pointless. It answers no questions and resolves barely anything. And then it just throws a few pointless curve-balls in there for good measure.

The problem with Sidonia was there is no way we can find answers to all Gauna related questions because they can't speak.
Any attempt to change it would destroy the entire world building, so I prefer to have several implications and interpretations.
I really wanted all of Sidonia to be converted to placenta, and have Nagate return home, not being able to tell the difference.
But I guess "haha the cluster ship accidentally terraformed the planet" and "let's all have babies" were good endings too
