We spend like a dozen chapters on side characters' tournaments and stuff, and eleven volumes in we've gotten almost nowhere with the childhood rival introduced at the start. I'm not saying that the detours and slow stuff is bad, but this is not a very direct plot we're following. It could go on as long as Endo feels like.
