Madoka didn't really start playing up the whole lesbian angle too aggressively till the movie where it all but became the crucial plot point. Like remember how to TV series made you think it was about some sort of moral struggle and girls trying to find a way out of a seemingly inescapable situation? Turns out it all really just boils down to the simplicity of some girls time loop crush on another who is the real main character and can just casually take all the powers in the show and magically fix everything to her liking when it took her crush an entire cours worth of character arc to achieve less albeit with a whole lot more meaningful character resolution. It's fucking ridiculously simplistic and loose writing in comparison but I still have to hear how Urobuchi is this genius incomparable anime writer despite him maybe writing scripts for 2 decent shows ever and noticeably contributing the least of the key staffers.
