How did Kamachi go from a series with a huge cast of mostly interesting characters go to a series with like 4 characters that are boring as fuck?

I've been following it, though not consistently. I found it enjoyable, though it doesn't pull me in as much as other shows I'm watching this season so it's been one of my lower priority shows.
I find the names of the geopolitical factions to be aggravatingly silly, however.
I don't hate watching it and it keeps me interested but I'm getting sick of them constantly saying flesh-and-blood humans

Episode one really made this series out to be all about giant robot wars. After episode 2 it easily became one of the best shows this season. Two dumb asses sneaking around giant mechs cracking stupid jokes at each other while getting shot at. Its a shame that fucking asterisk and rakudai are getting more attention.
