There were a few notable flaws about the anime, including some off-quality scenes on certain comedic parts. It was because A-1 was saving budget for the impressive CGs on muh piano hands.
The direction was also somewhat flawed, putting comedy in the wrong moments a few times during the series.Nevertheless, it was AOTY for me. Most of the art was near-perfect and the soundtrack was amazing. Your slice-of-life shit can fuck off.

It's bad enough that Kousei loses his shit every time her steps on a stage but the fact that instead of simply letting the audience hear for themselves that his music is off I apparently need to hear everyone in the audience give a fucking speech on how it's off. Even more egregious was the fact that every performance included flashbacks in the middle like it's some kind of battle shounen fight.
I get it was adapted from a manga, and in that kind of medium you need to use words to let the reader know his playing is off and how flashbacks don't break the flow because you can't hear the music anyway. But that isn't an excuse when it notably detracts from the anime experience.
I would take Hibike's single uninterrupted performance at the end over a dozen of Shitgatsu's any day of the week.
