Hey. Since I'm sorting through the last of my Garo scans, I'll dump an autogiographical manga about the rise of gekiga.
>Yoshihiro Tatsumi (辰巳 ヨシヒロ Tatsumi Yoshihiro, June 10, 1935 - March 7, 2015) was a Japanese manga artist who is widely credited with starting the gekiga style of alternative comics in Japan, having allegedly coined the term in 1957.
>A Drifting Life (劇画漂流 Gekiga Hyōryū?) is an autobiographical Japanese manga written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Tatsumi and chronicles his life from 1945 to 1960 when he began submitting and publishing manga.
>Over four decades ago, Yoshihiro Tatsumi expanded the horizons of comics storytelling by using the visual language of manga to tell gritty, literary stories about the private lives of everyday people. He has been called "the grandfather of Japanese alternative comics" and has influenced generations of cartoonists around the world. Now the visionary creator of "The Push Man and Other Stories" and "Good-bye" has turned his incisive, unflinching gaze upon himself. Over ten years in the making, "A Drifting Life" is Tatsumis' most ambitious, personal, and heart felt work: an autobiographical bildungsroman in comics form. Using his life long obsession with comics as a frame work, Tatsumi weaves a complex story that encompasses family dynamics, Japanese culture and history, first love, the intricacies of the manga industry, and most importantly, what it means to be an artist. Alternately humorous, enlightening, and haunting, this is the masterful summation of a fascinating life and a historic career.
Exceeds 215 pages, so you'll have to read the rest on your own.
>215
251.
Pass screwed up, manual for a bit.

>read the rest on your own
At least post a DDL link. Fascinating, apparently the Kickthekitty Mega links were taken down. I guess there's always BakaBT.
>>133533984
Someone should fix this page. I'm pretty sure the other chunk is in the scans.
>chronicles his life from 1945 to 1960 when he began submitting and publishing manga.
There is gonna be alot of despair in this then.
>>133534262
The MEGA links are still up, check the main2 folder.
>>133534652
>alot
>>133534705
Ah well, some of the links were killed for whatever reason.
>>133535641
I like the idea that Tezuka never went anywhere without that stupid hat, even when he was in school.
>>133533855
Anon I applaud you for posting about gekiga but its wasted on the shit stains that browse /a/
expect some HUUUR WHERE ARE THE CUTE GIRLS type of posts soon
But where are the cute girls?
>>133535710
There's a grand total of 20 anons that actually browse Garo dumps. A full 20 more than every other shithole. And 20 more than you could possibly get from any forum within 24 hours.
>>133535682
Stories about Tezuka are amusing in general. I should find more material on him to read. There are some translated NHK interviews, etc. on Youtube, Dailymotion, etc. and he still has his damn hat.
>>133535762
You'll have to settle for moe men. Mizuki is the moest, but his autobiographical manga won't ever be translated.
>>133536150
Why is Hideki Yukawa so smug?
>>133535970
On that note, KTK scanned the first Showa volume.
Hey. Hey, anon. Do you know any group that would be interested in encoding of the movie "Tatsumi"? http://anidb.net/a9201
The existing 720p encode has noticeable banding problems and the only subtitles available are translated from French (BDs were released only in France, I believe).
I got my hands on the BDMV (1080p) but I can't encode for shit. Currently I'm retiming official English subtitles from the hardsubbed UK DVD rip and making mediocre sign typesetting.
>>133536199
Sitting on his throne of awards and honors.
>>133535682
I like that stupid hat for what it did. People use it to show that this particular character here is a mangaka, usually in a gag or something. I like those. Like the last page of Cromartie, remember?
>>133536274
Maybe, I can ask the encoding group on a tracker that I'm part of. There's a 1080 on there already, though, so maybe the subs would just have to be fixed.
>>133536274
The mangafag population and the encoding guys seem to end up very separate. Scanlation and fansubbers hardly ever crossed (more so now with fansubbers being practically dead).
>>133536361
Great.Are you from Habanero Scans?
>>133536504
Yeah.
>>133536444
A BOMB
>>133536525
I'll contact you via IRC or e-mail once I finish with subs.
>>133536708
Thanks. I'll go make a post on the forum about it. You're timing to the 720?
>>133536783
Yes, to the rip by MAGiCAL from TPB.
>>133537060
>Shigeru MizukiDo you think the kids made fun of his missing arm?
>>133535710
I for one love OP's dumps. Big fan of Garo magazine and old gekiga in general. I'm reading with great interest OP. Gekiga appreciators we out here nigga.
>>133538056
What's going on in this image?
I wish more manga artist would make autobiographies
Shit is interesting
>>133538256
I agree, but we won't be able to read a lot of them. Shit like Nonnonbaa to Ore or Kakukaku Shikajika. I think I've read most of what I could of the autobiography tag on MU.
>>133538122
Suihou Tagawa is drawing his most popular character, Norakuro.
>>133538256
I don't think many people would like to write about themselves. You know, just considering how many authors doesn't even have a photo of themselves published anywhere.
Thanks OP, it's nice to have someone intersted in gekiga as well, it'd be nice if you decide to post some Shirato next time.
>>133538742
I already posted Kamui Den a couple times, and I don't think I have any of his other stuff downloaded. I might scan a volume or two of his other short series.
>>133538873
I'm more interested in that fucking artbook. Dear lord, that is beautiful.
>>133538873
I think some of his stuff was translated in Garo project, but i'm not sure.
>>133538965
Oh no, I can see it coming
>>133539108
Hell yeah, motherfucker.
>>133539147
Okimasa don't fuck around
>>133539669
>pachinko was becoming popular
The beginning of the end.
OP, is there a mega or pastebin with DL links for your previous GARO scans/other gekiga/old manga stuff? I'm really interested, and noticed a mega was mentioned earlier but no link in the thread. Thnaks.
>>133540045
Gotta make that cash
>>133539920
Habanero Scans, BakaBT, Google.
>>133540527
Oh, god, not this chapter.
>>133540476
I don't get it
He delivered a face towel for her?
>>133540560
I've seen heated towels being delivered in manga before. I think it's a thing.
>>133540560
>>133540672
I can't tell if you're joking.
>>133540708
Uh what
>>133540770
You would make a good harem protagonist, anon.
>>133540860
;_;
>>133540928
Fucking Okimasa
>>133541786
>To Live
Man, nobody calls it that.
>>133543369
I'm assured to learn that he was not deceived by those adults.
>>133543499
Yeah, don't worry. The deception comes later.
