I honestly get the complete opposite impression from his character - he has a general long-term plan, but he doesn't prepare for accidents. It just so happens that most of the accidents BB comes across are happy ones. e.g. his devil fruit "choosing him", Shiliew being willing to use the antidote on his crew. Luffy also happened to be starting a riot on the same day BB decided to break out some prisioners, making that go much more smoothly. BB has had fate on his side for the entire series it seems not to detract from the guy's planning skills or anything.

No it's not you retard. In the story, this ability was presented as an add on after the fights were finished. Ace, Whitebeard already died and then Blackbeard did his thing. Nothing changed in that arc because he was able to do this. Marineford was literally just an introduction to this ability, and therefore it acted more as an 'oh shit' moment, that happens often in action moves/stories/epics for the main villain. It was presented in a way that you follow along and take it as an added mystery and threat like the people inverse took it as too. I doubt there were many people who thought like you when this chapter hit, bud.

Exactly. For some reason he went for the darkness fruit first, he has to know something about the fruit that allows him to steal powers. The rule says that a person that eats 2 devil fruits will die, but he only ate one and stole the other powers somehow.
My theory is that when a DF user dies, the devil inside him gets out to respawn the fruit. Blackbeard just sucks out the demon the moment it gets out of the body. The coat might be to surround the body in darkness, since the demon is probably invisible and intangible, the only way to catch it is for the Darkness Logia user is completely surround a dying DF user in darkness.

Blackbeard uses his powers to act as a conduit to have to fruit powers sent to him instead of the fruit nearby.

Not in a mind of it's own kinda way, but patches of skin, muscle fibers, bones, eyes; they will be completely different from the surrounding tissue. It's still your arm, you control it, but it has different DNA than you do.
If teach was a chimera and could take a devil fruit power from a dead user, using One Piece logic he could probably "store" it in his chimeric parts since it's not "him"
