I agree. China shines and is entertaining whenever she's doing anything that doesn't have to do directly with Yui. She played well off of brat when she was teasing her about her spelling, was cute when Kyouko learned about what she thinks of her, and it was fun to see her horrify even the teachers with her drawing as well as see Akane freak her out.
The Yui obsession moments are honestly way too frequent and annoying though, enough so that it's all people can sometimes remember about her despite being involved in some of the show's funniest scenes, especially in season one. Even Namori's kind of moving away from it in the manga, and I'm so glad that she is, since all AkaChina moments are pure yuru in it's rawest form.

Personally I found Shinobu's obsession with Alice to be much more endearing than Chinatsu's with Yui. It helps that she was the main character so she had plenty of opportunities to show other sides of herself.

It depends on what the translator is trying to both preserve and to communicate. There are three different base models or means of approaching this, but songs are a nuanced area as the lyricism is highly dependant upon metre and rhythm, often making the phonetic value of the phraseology more important than the eschewed meaning.

If I recall their relationship was always supposed to be sort of an allegory for marriage (all the three main pairings were supposed to be a different stage of a relationship), and like any marriage it had it's ups and downs, what matters is in the end they made up. Shinobu even had some moments throughout where she realized she was being a shitter by placing her obsession with blonde girls in general over the one who was already so devoted to her, and by the end of season 2 Shinobu was practically having withdrawals just not being near her. I practically cheered when Alice and Karen returned from London at the same time and Shinobu ran straight into Alice's arms and ignored Karen.
Here's the thing. I like Chinatsu. She is "dangerous," as you say, but I like that about her. Dangerous and cute is a rare combination is any given SoL show. I love her weird rapey antics and horrible drawings, but the obsession with Yui just kills me anymore. It sometimes has it's moments where it's makes for a fun joke, like the tea spill, but the very nature's of Yuru Yuri's time looping and Namori's "no progression" policy has drove it into the ground. It happens every episode. China obsesses over Yui, Yui makes a passing comment, they never talk about it and it goes nowhere. It brings both Yui and China down as characters. It's why people are so happy to see AkaChina scenes in general, and why it seems like even Namori is kind of slowly stepping away from that aspect of her character.

That is why I stated to look up any unknown terms. A phonetic comprehension of a semantic value so a general psychological reaction would be a response to the reference to the source material and a response based on the acoustic appreciation of the lyrics. I don't remember ever hearing that before. Either way, I think the first season is quite cruel to Alice and it hampers my enjoyment of it, though I'm aware I'm probably overreacting. There's an episode or two of her and Shinobu being retardedly cute, and then Karen shows up and steals the show and it's all jokes about how jealous Alice is and Shinobu doesn't notice because she's blinded by the light of the kinpatsu. It's a pretty common trope in a lot of anime though which is rarely followed up on. I think they consciously rectified it in the second season however with Alice and Karen's trip to London.
