Why wouldn't it? Naruto works well as an introduction to anime or manga, and it's a good series either way. It definitely starts to get not as good as it goes on, and by the end you're really only reading to get it over with, but the experience in the beginning and up until the end of the Pain Arc is pretty worth while, and for series that are supposed to "start" you off into anime, is that not enough?
